If I understood the news correctly, she's Chilean? What are she and her family even doing in the UK in the first place? Shouldn't they be complaining about a living wage in Chile?

What tosh.

I am totally against people being here illegally but if they are here having fulfilled all the legal requirements, then I have no problems.

Of course, that doesn't mean the legal requirements shouldn't be tightened - or enforced properly.

alternative answer, tonker: What they can do that our own workshy dolescum cannot is work to earn a living.

The Tory poster should not say "Cut benefits fro those who refuse work", but "Transport those who refuse work".

This shameful manipulation of an emotional subject seems to me be the desparate last resorts of a dead man walking.

Supporting her Mum's boss is hardly likely to be seen as unbiased.

Why is it tosh?

I asked a question, and the answer - her mother is Spanish and hence here by right as an EU citizen - was provided. Why is it tosh to ask a question? confused

Totally bloody priceless, but thats part of a bigger problem - kids will generally prefer to just cut/paste details from wikipedia/wherever rather than actually read and understand what they're doing.

So the mother works as a cleaner in the Treasury then. Who's responsible for her having such apparently disgraceful working conditions?
HMRC?
Mapeley Steps, the offshore, tax-avoiding company that HMRC managed to sell their properties to (and where contractual overspend is already nearly £1bn - that's overspend on the agreed contract)?
Another organisation employed by one of the above?

And who is ultimately respnonsible, and has been for the past thirteen years?

That's easy, Margaret Thatcher. Just ask any Labour supporter.

The tone of your question seemed to indicate that you had a problem with her working here just because she appeared to be Chilean.
The fact that it turned out she was actually Spanish doesn't answer the question as to why her assumed Chilean nationality was an issue for you.

About the Labour supporters not Maggie, obviously.

Chile is pretty much the most stable, prosperous, democratic, open & fair country in Latin America, and has been since before this particular girl was born.

OK, her father might've fled persecution under Pinochet, but there would be absolutely nothing whatsoever stopping them from making a perfectly safe home in Chile now.

If you take a look through some of my posts on here, you'll see that I'm significantly less opposed to migration than most, and completely in favour of free movement within the EU, but for someone to live here for purely economic reasons and then have the cheek to bh about how much they get paid is a pisstake of epic proportions.

But why does coming from Chile make a difference?

I'd be annoyed if ANYONE had an atitude like that - no matter where they were from.

The fact that she cried when she addressed Brown stands in her favour - in my opinion.

It doesn't. The same would've applied if they'd come from any safe, non-EU country. It just happens to be in this case that they came from Chile. Had they come from Japan, for sake of argument, I would've asked exactly the same question with "Japan" instead of "Chile".

Why did you mention the country AT ALL then?
