We can access our bank accounts online and pay our taxes so not be able to vote? I think the security risks are overrated as long as we think about it with a bit of common sense and get companies involved that are the cutting edge of online security.

Use this in America don't they? And there was problems in the Al Gore/Bush election under that system

I have never met a competent software engineer who thinks electronic voting is a good idea.

18 hours every four or five years isn't an unreasonable time to wait for results given what's at stake.

Online voting, text voting. Cracking concept... or you could walk down the road and vote in the booth. They have after all put them in places actually close to where you live.
Took me 20 minutes last night including the walk, hardly a major hassle.

As for the tech. Why bother. The whole paper/count by hand thing seems to actually work and doesn't suddenly go Pfft and make all the data disappear because someone got a line of code wrong or flipped the wrong switch.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Voting by text makes me shudder at the very thought of it. Unless you have to pass a basic IQ test first.
I mean, if someone's too fking lazy or thick to get of their arse and vote, how much thought is that said person going to give towards who they are voting for in the first place?

ID cards, fingerprints and DNA samples stored all which is needed to vote. Maybe not, but the current system is too easy to rig and if we go online then the next PM will be decided by Lagos.
