I'm firmly on Hayeks's side
"just a broke banking system, I'm done, that's a wrap"
Ain't that the truth - and it was nice to see Hugh Hendry point it out on newsnight last night - the clock is ticking.......

They have to really.
Exciting boat rocking is around the corner.
Slippery slope of risk and more risk IMO.
Merkel saying "We'll show you, who bet against us". Interesting indeed. No time for ideology here or non-practical stuff.
QE won't stop the s
t hitting the fan, it just defers it. IMO.
Wait and see what happens here..... oh forgot, we're coming out of a rescession, employment is rising and interest rates are going to stay low.

Surprisingly were about to get stung for paying for this! Like many others when winky the one eye traitor signed the EU treaty, I asked myself how long it would be until our veto, was itself vetoed with the majority vote clause
Looks like WE are now on the hook for £10,000,000,000.00 for every £100B that other countries default on.
Don’t know about you lot, but the idea of bailing out the Euro, at a time when we can least afford it, really does sound like the work of a f
king lunatic.AndrewW-G said:

May it all come crashing down, so I can piss on the rubble.
s.There's a whole load of important single factors coming together at the same time here which could produce some interesting (boy, is that an understatement) consequences.
Greece - next repayments scheduled May 19th and unless the bail-out is formalised and done, they've got no money - Clock ticking
ECB - Trichet, after almost two years of refusing to play the QE game now seems to want to build, authorise and issue 600b over the space of a weekend - sure smells like a well thought out plan and not a panic measure to me.....Not. Clock ticking.
UK - Hung Parliament and all that entails for the markets - we have a bond auction scheduled for Tuesday - Clock ticking
Germany - The Germans go to the polls today in their elections. Merkal could suffer and Germany could find itself caught in the sort of navel gazing we are currently indulging in when, as Europes leading light, it needs to be strong and decisive - Clock ticking.
Equity markets based on computers trading between themselves for fraction of a penny rebate and flow payments. Forget fat fingers, that was a lie. These machines do what they are programmed to do regardless if the direction is up or down. What happened on the DJIA on thursday can easily happen again. Clock ticking.
A Banking system, that in the blink of an led, could be sent back into the insolvent state thanks to the lying that is still ongoing surrounding asset values and outlandish leverage ratios. Hugh Hendry mentioned as much on Newsnight on Friday and rumours abound about interbank lending drying up again. Clock Ticking.
Next week is going to be sooooo much fun.
And Tonker, re the little nations, you have to feel sorry for Slovenia. They applied and were first refused membership of the Euro as they didn't meet all the qualifying conditions - they've spent years reshaping their economy and have managed to comply 100% with all the Maastricht conditions, to be granted entry to the club. Now they are in, they find that pretty much everyone else was lying and they have been asked for 380m as their slice of the Greek bill.
Welcome to Europe.
Have a nice week.

Is Euroland about to start QE ?
You mean is the ECB going to start QE? Unlikely.
Are the EU going to bail out Greece? Yes
In fact we are due for about £9bn of that bill, which is nice.
Especially as it will cost us more to borrow it than we lend it to Greece for.
And it won't work of course...

Isn't this exactly the sort of rhetoric we heard from John Major before we got bounced out of the ERM? Defending the Euro at all costs is music to speculators ears.
Exactly my first thought too, the speculators are about to make a fortune i suspect. The problem here though compared to the ERM is this, they cant pull out of this and go back to their old curency, so it's got the potential for much more carnage than we suffered when playing with the ERM concept.Sky News are reporting Darling has said "the UK will not and cannot bail out the Euro". Maybe he doesn't understand that it's no longer the UK's decision if we pay or not.

Awesome!
If they can wangle their way out of this mess without it all going to s
t, they will have proved that the EUSSR has got what it takes to manage the project.
This is the biggest mess going. It would be interesting to hear what the non-social democrats have got to say about this in France and Germany...... but we never hear about those right wing extremists, do we?

He knew, Greece (PIGS) was already in trouble when he signed it.
Pretending not to know and lying about our having to pay is the only way to protect both the EU and himself (at our expense of course, as usual).
PS Sorry, I forgot to wish everybody a very happy Europe Day. It's deliciously ironic, it falls on 9th May!
From the EU website, what it means is:-
"Europe Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and peoples of the Union closer to one another."
Yes, it looks like we'll all be celebrating by the activity of emptying our wallets into their bucket!
