How secure is the electoral register? Seems that a 14 year old boy got a voting card and then went to vote. I guess his mother put his name on the form that comes around every year. What isn't surprising is that he said he's a Socialist and that's why he voted so he could make a difference. I guess it doesn't occur to him that every other 14 year old in the land couldn't vote so why should he?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_20...

So if somebody tries to register a few weeks before an election how do the authorities verify the following;

- you actually exist
- you are eligible either through age or nationality
- you aren't already registered in other areas?

Considering the amount of fraud at the last election would it not be better to abolish postal/proxy votes and also stamp peoples hands once they have voted to stop them touring around voting in various places?

I need a postal vote as I am usually working away and cannot guarantee that I can be around to vote. I am concerned about all the proxy votes that appear to be up for grabs abroad.

Socialist, aged 14. About right in terms of age and mental capacity.

OTOH, it shows that lack of scruples and left leaning attitudes go hand in hand.

This is the real electoral reform issue. A way has to be found to ensure that the person putting their cross in the box is the person entitled to do so.

It's a ridiculous situation where, because you just happen to have a polling card sent to your address, you can vote. Richard Herring, the comedian, tweeted that somebody elses polling cards had been dropped through his door and when he chased after the old guy who was distributing the cards he found several polling cards lying in the street! Of course, the other stupid thing is that you don't actually need a card to vote anyway.

Then there's postal voting which seems open to extreme abuse, as has been proved in the past.

Oh, and don't get me started about the constituency sizes, which currently favour Labour. These need to be equalised in some way.

I don't know what the solution is but, with all the technology we have available now, there must be something we can do.

We'll have a more socialist future as kids these days are disillusioned by corporations etc

I am talking about the type that want to see large private companies taxed more and have their funds distributed amongst the people (and staff) or not have such large companies to start with.

Interesting concept. Out of further interest, since you're aware of that 'type' what justification do they give for taking a company's funds and giving them away to staff and whoever those other people are?

No, I think kids are just ignorant, and have been brainwashed into seeing government and private corporations as somehow different. They are not.

In fact if these self centred socialist kids were not so stupid they'd be learning about the banking system that keeps us all in debt and creates the inequalities they keep bleating about. A fair and stable financial system based on (interest free) treasury notes and pure market forces would solve all the problems of the typical bleating jealous marxist - it's just they are too dumb to see it.

Jack Straw is an object lesson in the typical marxist - the everyday journey of a jealous, selfish yound man to dictator and war monger. They are so corruptible because all they ever wanted was everyone else stuff for themselves. Selfish idiots, every one of them.

This kid is a tt, and should be arrested and prosecuted, as should his mother who helped perpetrate this fraud by putting his name on the electoral register, as well as letting him keep the polling card that was sent out to him.
If they are not punished severely, at the next election there are certain elements of society with large families and confusing allocation of first and last names that will happily jump on this as a (another) method of perpetrating electoral fraud on a huge scale.

Stick moronic little turd in Borstall for a year or two to turn him into a proper Socialist.

There's nothing stopping you making up a load of names and telling your LA that they live with you. There's no check to establish those people actually exist.

Considering the Tories lost the election by only 16,000 votes nationally (i.e. spread across some key marginals), it's not beyond even a minor fraud to have changed the election result quite substantially.

You need to start with the currency. Then move onto fraction reserve lending.
It's not the big banks keeping the common man down, it's the entire banking system leaching off 99% of the population.

We need to return currency to a tool of trade, public works and tax. At the moment it is primarily a tool of control and profit. With Brown giving our power away to the Bank of England and the rise of the ECB it's primary role in control and profit is getting stronger at the expense of us all.

There is a strong case to say currency interest is the root of all evil.

He's a 'socialist' but lives in Poulton-le-Fylde so probably comes from a well off family, lives in a nice house and goes to a decent school.

He's 14. I was a committed leftie when I was 14. He'll grow out of it.

At least he's taking an interest in politics.

It's in our local Blackpool paper.

He applied on-line via the Direct-Gov website.

I met plenty of "socialists" at Uni, with their parents buying them a nice new car an spending their summer in their second home in France etc... Odd how when I suggested that their parents shouldn't buy them a car and they shouldn't have a second home, that the "socialist" attitude changed to the Tory way..... But it soon went back again..

Why is it that all too many "socialists" are wealthy?
