i know 'for legal reasons'

but he's been found guily of GBH, surely we have to know if we see him walking down the street in a few years, he might throw a bottle of acid at one of us

What could you do if someone throws acid at you? Is it best to try and wash it off or does it do all it's damage instantly? Scary stuff

Whilst the idea of Honour retribution is accepted within certain religions and communities, such stuff will continue.

Water, lots of it and (VERY) quickly. But yes, it's fking scary stuff, and IMHO attacks with it should be viewed as seriously as stabbings, i.e. it IS attempted murder*.

* How can "Open your mouth" with the intention of pouring acid down it not be considered attempted murder???

Just seen on the BBC, that the main guy has got 30 years for this.

Sounds about right to me. Though, some 'medieval' part of me thinks their punishment should be to have acid poured over their heads!

An eye for an eye and all that (or should that be a face for a face)

Scum, parents that could not parent, kids that have no fear of the law and a weak legal system. All these scumbags, white, black, brown, yellow have a not catching me attitude and even if they do get caught they know there are in for a easy ride (Muslim only part of the jail for this ) and with so many get out clauses in the legal system he will be out before he knows it, then having earned his stripes he can walk around as a big man innit bruv.

I hope our chav underclass don't get wind of this and start carrying around acid instead of knives.

91% sulphuric acid. Interesting that you can get it that easy. Conc sulphuric acid is the doorway to conc nitric and armed with them both and an old chemistry book/some glwassware, serious explosives are within your reach.

91% sulphuric. I'm assuming this is nigh-on 18M. Very very very nasty stuff. Really doesn't like being added to water. It causes the water to boil, which in turn speeds up any reaction. It causes organic matter to char.

Doesn't bear thinking about really. A truly horrible chemical. I'm very surprised you can get this.

These acid attacks are nasty as hell.

Did anyone else see that documentary a few months ago about the (quite fit) girl who got attacked by her boyfriend? Was probably one of the most harrowing things I've seen on TV.

Perhaps because most people who buy it don't do so in order to throw it over someone else? Your logic could be applied to a great many things, and we would end up not being able to do anything without some form of approval yet it still wouldn't stop things like this.

Someone who goes out of their way to attack someone in this way is a fairly unpleasant individual, who would just come up with some alternative anyway.

So throwing lots of water on you isn't the best course of action then?

No, you need to neutralise the acid.
