I watched the Prime Minister & Mrs Cameron arrive at and leave Buckingham Palace and arrive in Downing Street.

Call me an un-ashamed reader of 'The Chap' but how wonderful to see that, after all the brutish vulgarity of 'The new labour project' we now have a Prime Minister sufficiently well mannered to know the correct drill for helping a lady into and out of a motor car

Agreed. Another little thing; Gordon read his speech, Cameron didn't have to.

We commented on that, quite a long speech and straight from memory. I have to say after the embarrassment of Calamity Brown it's nice to have a decent chap at the helm who you're not ashamed of!

Did anyone else spot the 1990s V8 Vantage in front of Cameron's jag on the way down The Mall?

yes we (my wife and I) commented on both this and opening the door for his pregnant wife, manners maketh...

I used to cringe every time I saw Brown or anyone else in the Labour cabinet representing our country abroad

He must have eyes like a fking eagle then. Did you see how far away the cameras were, and that they were all small portables rather than large studio statics. No?
Why did Brown read from a script if there were teleprompters available?

I'm not sure if this is true, but I was told today that apparently, Cameron had asked/instructed that the only person who should open and close the car door for his wife (when he is present) is himself.

I have to admit that I also open the car door for my wife. (Unless she beats me to it of course). Gives me an enormous sense of well being.

edit

BTW, if you want to get sucked off regularly, open the car door for your mrs. They REALLY dig it. And especially do it in front of guests. All females are piranhas as we know, but their man opening the car door for them is one hell of a one up game they play.

Perhaps with only one eye, he can read better from a piece of paper in front of his nose?

My other half was at Downing Street last year to drop off some paperwork when she worked at the NDA, and there were definitely teleprompters set up when she was there. Just passing on what I was told.

With the camera lights on the FCO wall, it would have been impossible to see, let alone read from, a tele-prompter yesterday (hence Broon used a script). Added to that, when he spoke, he was looking all over the place, not at a fixed screen.

No, but whoever that was I'll vote for in round two.
