From the arseticle:

Andrew Roberts big massive head of European rates strategy at RBS said:
"Great Depression II" could now be approaching. It now has potential to speed toward its conclusion; a European $1trn package which does little and political panic tells you we are about to reach the end of the road. The world should be discussing deflation, not inflation.
Does this mean that, perhaps, Merv King is right leaving BR low and that it may have to stay there - Japan Stylee - for some time yet?

I was out on the lash last night and the general consensus was that rates were going to be staying low for longer than we think.

The reasoning was:

People still have not unwound sufficient levels of personal debt to be able to cope.

Banks are able to levy fat margins to re-charge their balance sheets and properly stabilize.

Finally, the right cuts by Govt will abate inflationary pressures.

I take it you dived in when they are into the 3's just a few months ago? Into the 2's then you may have a point.

Currently looking at fix options on an industrial morgage: A lot says rates can't shift and simply rolling a 3 month Libor-based rate might be best, but then there's the outside chance of 'disaster' - IMF intervention, or the attack of teh bond markets - which might force the B of E into a reluctant hike. rotate

I'm going to mull it over the weekend. A few headfirst spills off the mountain bike can occasionally dislodge a decent idea.

I think it was March last year that it was in the 3's?? Not sure of anyone that dived in to be honest even though it was so tempting.
