Good morning fellow pistonheaders

This is my first post on this site, but I've been a reader for about 3 weeks now beer

I work as cabin crew for BA and for obvious reasons I cant say my name. If I was to say my name I could face the sack! Do you think it fair and reasonable that a company instantly sacks anybody who talks about that company to the press, or even publishes their opinion on the internet?

Why do you think BA are sacking anybody who they find saying a single word to the press, what do you think they're scared of and are trying to stop by sacking people?

There's currently a female cabin crew member who has been suspended for posting the three letters OMG on her facebook account, WHY?

Is it written into your employment contract, which you should have signed?

If you disagree with a companies policies (that you are likely to have signed up to when you signed the employment contract) then leave. You have that choice.

OP, do you think it's fair for a scumbag union to try to take down a national institute and well reputed company..?

Do you also realise that if you keep going as you are, nobody will buy flights from BA and they will fold. "Yay! We've won!" you'll say, before you realise BA isn't in existance any more and you any longer so you have no job, meaning you're a benifit scumbag and we're even less likely to give a st what you say.

fk off back under your rock, Daily Mail troll.

Say what you like to the press, at least then you may have a claim for unfair dismissal . . . . . . . .all the other cabin crew will only get statutory redundancy / severance pay, when BA files for bankruptcy and the receivers sell off its assets smile

Oh and next time you speak to anybody who voted yes, to the strike stupidity, smack them in the face, as they will be the people responsible for you losing your well paid job wink

They've come to the wrong place then, haven't they?

Most organisations / companies will not appreciate getting openly criticised by their employees. Even the most benign public sector employers will give you a talking to and seriously dented promotion prospects if you slag them off publicly.

BA are stuck in Life on Mars, as far as I can tell. They face barmy '70s style union leaders determined to preserve what used to be called 'Spanish practices' at all costs. At the the same time BA are run by Willie Walsh, who I doubt would give you his last Rolo and seems unlikely to be the skilled and conciliatory negotiator needed to get a decent, workable compromise. Unless there's some change of weather on one of the sides it's not looking good for anyone, is it? I'd present exhibit National Union of Mineworkers vs HM Government, 1984 at this point...

If I had a company and my employees publicly criticised me or my company, I would want to sack them. Whether I should be allowed to is another matter - depends on your contract, doesn't it?

Absolute nonsense. Plenty of cabin crew (both striking and non-striking) are posting on forums such as pprune, cabincrew, crewforum and the BASSA forum. What is not acceptable is bullying and intimidation and bringing the company into disrepute.

They will be posting annoymously, or just not caring if they get the sack.

Anyways, irrespective of what people think of the strike, do you think it ok to instantly sack anybody found talking to the press? why would BA do that? what are they scared of is the big question.

Yes, the company you (or most likely your members) work for, is on the brink of bankruptcy, the more its reputation is trashed in public, the less people will want to fly with them (when BA arent on strike) therefore you are a material risk to the company and if your employemtn contract supports it, you should be out on your arse and working for minimum wage in McDonalds

There will always be people willing to do a somebody elses job for less money, under your logic nobody should ever complain about their job then?
