Spotted this on another site, technically it's not speed plod and the law as it looks like a (civil/uncivil) penalty frown

I can understand fines/lines etc on routes to keep traffic moving but massive amounts of road across the country now seem to be painted just to "raise revenue", i thought the job of councils/goverment was to work for and assist the public, not scam them at every opportunity like some monopoly business.

I can understand, short term parking outside shops etc on the road, but if it is to encourage people to shop so the busines can pay their rent/rates etc it should be free but are councils just trying to cut out the middleman i'e hardworking, struggling small businesses and take the cash directly furious

My dad is a local councillor. Off the record he does not disguise the fact that parking fines/prices are solely there to make up the shortfall in the council's budget.

A large part of this is because the Labour government withdrew a large part of funding for local government.

It is also just because councils waste money. Hopelessly.

This just came up on another thread 3,500 to 5,000 pounds a WEEK to keep a child in a secure childrens home. That means a home with 10 kids might be costing 50,000 a week. A WEEK. On what???

It’s so blatant that I got a parking ticket at 2am. A local council actually employs traffic wardens at 2am.

I parked in a bus stop, knowing that the last bus of the night had gone.

I was visiting a club and I knew I would be gone again before the first bus was due.

I know it’s illegal, but when the stop isn’t required because the buses aren’t running is a bit OTT.
