... the money we send to Brussels is also going to be cut by?
Well it's... errr... going to go up, actually. 25% up, and more.
Even after taking into account the money that the EU graciously gives back to us (which is often misspent), the amount we pour into Brussels is going to grow from £6.4bn last year, to £8.3bn this year and then goes on to peak at an eye-watering £10.3bn in 2014-15.

No matter how good a job the coaltion Lib-cons are doing in trying to get a grip of the Labour financial mess one has to say...
Warned you! Yep, we really did warn you about voting for CMD.

Could be worse, we could have voted for Winky, and we wouldn't even start trying to cut any budgets for another 5 years, ensuring that we really will be well and truly stuffed.£25m for a Stonehenge souvenir shop my arse.

Also 75% of all Govt websites to be scrapped apparently.
600 websites to be closed saving £100 million, probably including the Potato Marketing council lovechips.co.uk
Remaining websites to be reviewed to see if resources etc can all be shared and halve the costs.
Apparently the worst website costs £11.78 per visit.

It's not the real world is it? I've just looked at lovechips.co.uk (i never knew it even existed until you mentioned it) - and what a waste. It really is a strange parallel world these people live in. And how would you ever know if that website was successful or not in its aims?? There's even a Facebook page with a whole 1,400 members. I struggle each year to make my marketing budget, but I've no doubt they have a budget for that website that would make my eyes water frankly.
Odd country we live in.

The BPC, which has 56 employees and has devised almost as many ways to eat a potato, raises most of its money from a compulsory levy on potato growers and seed merchants but also receives £61,308 a year from the government.
It has to compete for attention in schools with the Milk Development Council (MDC), which has seen its staff increase from seven in 2000 to 49 last year, many of them “school milk facilitators” encouraging children to drink more milk.
The BPC has been voted Britain’s most useless quango by a website that monitors public spending. The runners-up include the MDC and the Home Grown Cereals Authority.

and just as a final dig at Labour
When Tony Blair came to power he promised to sweep away the growth of “unaccountable quangos”. But if all non- departmental public bodies are included, he has created another 752. They include the BPC, the Zoos Forum and the Gaelic Development Agency.
ooops.
But then I worry how much of what we hear about sweeping away the 600 websites is actually spin. I'm sure the potato growers would be very happy to lose the compulsory levy of £39/hectare/£44/ha for late payments, but will they? Lose it I mean, or not have to pay it is perhaps a better way of putting it. Don't we import something like 2 million tonnes of spuds a year out of 8 million tpy consumption? We only export about 0.3 m tpy.
So much money wasted on crap I really dunno anymore to be honest.

56 people to do PR for the potato - funded through a compulsory charge on potato growers - you mean - like a tax then...

Do those potato growers pay something towards this quango? Not afaik
Or is it just UK grower getting stiffed. yep

I believe you are right, I was just grateful it wasn't Timmy Bloody Mallett.
thought this was a good waste of money.I'm utterly stunned, potato growers in the UK taxed to provide this drivel and pay for some has been to run around the country going 'aint chips brilliant' (or was that the milk crowd?)
God's breath, I'd feared it was bad...
