A LORRY driver has been hit with a hefty fine after being caught smoking in his cab.

Wade Critchley, of Palatine Road, Blackpool, was convicted at Lancaster Magistrates' Court after failing to pay a spot fine handed out during a sting on commercial vehicle drivers.

Critchley was caught smoking in his vehicle during a joint operation between Lancaster City Council and Lancashire Police on March 3.

A number of commercial vehicles were stopped where the drivers were observed smoking.
I'm so glad that money and resources are being spent on catching those nasty lorry drivers smoking in their vehicles whilst driving alone.

Absolutely. But if police budgets are cut it will only let Al-Qaeda in through the back door. No need to re-allocate resources, everything is fine as it is. Oh yes.

The truck used to catch people is just like the traffic police cars.

I'm all for stopping lorry drivers from watching films, etc.

With a spot of luck, the 25% savings to be made in police and local authority budgets will mean these jobsworths will be some of the first in the P45 handout event.

is it illegal as in anti smoking law or illegal as in "due car and attention"?

If its not illegal to smoke in a private vehicle, it would be difficult to stick a DWDCA on a lorry driver for having a fag in his cab.

It is illegal to smoke in a workplace.

Thats not what we are arguing (although your point is not strictly correct - there are exceptions). We were talking the possibility of DWDCA for smoking in a cab

Well, the residents of blackpool will no doubt be delighted when they hear that all rapes, murders and burglaries have been solved, leaving the police to concentrate on the more heinous crimes of speeding and smoking in your work vehicle.
