Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, called Camelot after failing to win with several cards.

The 23-year-old, who said she had left school without a maths GCSE, said: "On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn't.

"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.

"I think Camelot are giving people the wrong impression - the card doesn't say to look for a colder or warmer temperature, it says to look for a higher or lower number. Six is a lower number than 8. Imagine how many people have been misled."
Jesus! Words fail me hehe
Yes 6 is a lower number than 8, but -6 isn't a lower number than -8 you moron!

An entire country has gone to the dogs because of one admittedly stupid as hell woman? Sounds a bit of a tabloid opinion to me.

They wouldn't have withdrawn the card if it was merely one woman. I suspect that Camelot had a pandemic of stupidity to contend with prior to withdrawing the card

There's a clue there if you wish to look for it.

And is it the pupil's fault or the education system's fault?

I blame the EU - this wouldn't have happened if the temperatures had been stated in fahrenheit! smile

Crikey.

That means it could be as many as 12 or 13 million. Amazing.

Yes, it is. It's the first time I heard what happened after the initial laughter about the dumb woman.

Which is quite patently later than 2010, obviously.

A mix of both I would think.

Fear not. Climate change means that this problem will become of historical interest only within fifty years.*

If anyone thought idiocy was a very, very small minority, I suggest it's nearer the 25% mark.
