I hope the Policeman pulls through. RIP the 2 murdered people and I hope they catch the bd before he murders anyone else.

On a side note, why are they doing a post mortem on the man? Apparently the neighbour found him with a hole in his head? Isn't it obvious how he died?
You can't assume. It may appear obvious. But you need to confirm he wasn't poisoned etc as well.

"Police have been hunting for Raoul Thomas Moat, 37, who they believe shot his ex-girlfriend before killing her new partner in Gateshead on Saturday."

Moat was last seen around the (new)castle area

The guy they are looking for is an ex-nightclub bouncer with a history of violence. I would imagine that someone like that who has done time would know exactly where to get an illegal firearm so I don't think there will be much of an "all guns are evil!" outcry this time.

Just days out of jail and in possession of a gun; there is zero chance of him holding a firearms certificate.

No amount of anti-firearms legislation would have prevented this, just as making murder illegal failed to prevent his actions. All anti-firearms legislation ever achieves are restrictions to the freedoms of the law abiding.

It really is about time that all Police officers are given the option of routinely carrying firearms subject to qualification. No officer should ever be required to carry firearms but allowing officers the choice would give protection to many. Even those officers unwilling to carry firearms personally would benefit from the protection afforded by the presence of armed officers.

Maybe this officer would still be alive and the criminal either arrested or dead, either of which would be a big improvement on the current sad situation.

Let us hope for the prison service sake, this individual either puts an end to his own life, or that the police do.

Ah I see, thanks for that. Would never have thought about it that way.
Well, let's say that the GF had been feeding him meals laced with arsenic so that she could steal his house/car/whatever.. Then the question would be did the arsenic kill him or not? Because SHE would then be up for murder too...

That's a massive and unwarranted over-reaction.

The total number of deaths by shooting in UK is around 200 pa of whom almost none are police officers. Very few police officers get shot at all and of them only a handful receive serious injuries.

Although we all remember the unfortunate incident earlier this year where one police officer was shot by another during training.

How would you get them to take poison after you'd shot them?

Of course he would; that is what is meant by "outlaw guns and only outlaws will have them".

Not about banning guns or control orders on them.

Problem here (as per usual in PC Britain) is releasing another 'nutter' with a history that says he should be detained (but that costs money!).

Hope he doesn't end up doing a Bird and start (or continue) shooting at anyone he sees. He'll probably be aware he's facing 20-30 years inside so might feel he's got nothing to loose.

Off topic-ish. Is the female officer chairing the police news conference stuck in the 1980's?

According to the Metro this morning he believes that his ex-girlfriend the one he shot, was having an affair with the copper that put him inside

The police say they have investigated and have found no evidence of this

Someone who knows him reckons he will now go for suicide by cop frown
