Utter utter lunacy.

If you want to volunteer for your children's school then you need to present a CRB but to turn up to cheer, to support your child in an endeavour?

The headmaster of that school wants caning.

Fecking ridiculous.

Are there really that many more paedophiles around now than there were when I was a kid (which isn't really that long ago)? Or is it just media hype made worse by cases such as the McCann's?

I was told not to talk to strangers, not to accept lifts from strangers, and if someone tries to take you scream like hell. Other than that we roamed free during the day, regularly sodding off down the fields and into the woods.

Woe betide you if you were late for tea though.

In the playground article, it seems that it's fine to stand at the perimeter and wk furiously over your own kids but just don't step into the playground itself or you'll be in trouble.
ETA: The world has gone mad, but I agree re: the mail comment

Well, you know. It's getting worse and worse.

I'd not be surprised to find, in a few years time, that a school won't give you child back unless you have a CRB check.

This is the Labour legacy.

I'd have told the teaching staff to fk off, if I wanted to watch my kid participate in a sporting event I don't need their fking permission furious

You can imagine the rumours amongst the other parents too "Oh his dad could not watch because he could not get a CRB, must be a paedo" rolleyes

And to think, these are the people bringing up the future generations of the UK...... have teaching staff always acted like this ? Or is it another disease to be cured left by the previous government?

How much is a check? £26? Nice little earner for the CRB as well. Not that it means much...you just haven't been caught doing anything up to that point.

Interesting... it's like being fined before you've done anything wrong. How can I get in on a scam like this? $_$

how does a CRB weed out the unconvicted peadophile? Who lets be honest is much more a danger than the known quantity.

You're assuming there are clever people running the country. Everyone else knows this is the major flaw in the system.

Local LEA said in the Mail said:
'The day-to-day running of the school is a matter for the school and its governors, but we are contacting the school to discuss their policy with them.'
Which says it all to me. This isnt a central government thing, neither is it a regional LEA thing - its 100% down to the school and the utter madness that they have put in place for the local policies. I am lucky, my kids headteacher is very un-PC and very fair, so we have none of this rubbish. But she does equally dispair when this type thing comes out, because its usually down to one or two people on the board of governors / teaching staff that need to sort their life out.

Seen it before and will definately see it again - the minority spoiling it for the majority yet again.

The thing that seems ridiculous about CRB checks is that they're activity specific. So although he already had one as a taxi driver, he would have needed another one to be in school, yet would be OK to drive kids around in his taxi. My daughter's done 4 of them in the last year or so.
