Just watching the news and was slightly incredulous about the way the report was angled to scaremonger people who have nothing to do with quads to lobby for them to have compulsay helmets, rather than it be optional like it currently is...

What is wrong with the world... let pople make their own risk assessment ffs. We are grownups, so leave us alone big brother!

Brown Broadcasting Corporation is the last bastion of Nu Labia's nanny state. What d'you expect?

They have also been making a sizeable racket about the coalition's budget reduction. I wonder why?.......

Anyone can. The Beeb's news is hilariously biased. Even more st is their utterly unwatchable "Breakfast" programme - in which Islington-Something-Must-Be-Done-Itis is at its most prevalent.

Which is why there is some enjoyable Schadenfreude about their relocation up north.

Which will probably only make it worse but hey?

laugh Yes, never forget that the Ramblers Assocaition grew out of the Communist Party and has its roots in the Manchester area.

When helmets were made compulsory for motorcycle riders there was no vested interest for the MP who proposed the bill and did so much lobbying.

The small matter that his brother in law happened to own a struggling helmet manufacturing company surely had no bearing upon his action.

I'm sure the extra sales that saved the company following helmets becoming compulsory must have been an unexpected shock.

rolleyes

History repeating itself maybe?

Who profits?

They don't go to hospital? Get an ambulance? Fire engine etc?

I must have gone to different quad crashes then...

Road safety is about reducing financial burdens upon the state/ business.

They crash quite a lot, they are bloody unstable.

Trikes are less unstable and tend to be driven in a different manner and by a different type of person.

The quads I see are driven in the main too fast and by a certain type of person with little regard for their own safety or that of others.

They're bloody dangerous alright but I didn't think the hospitals were filling up with quad related injuries is all.

so do all other motorists when they crash ?

besides, insurance can cover that cost

and chances are, if you come off a quad at 90 with no helmet, darwin will get you, so no hospital care needed, just a snazzy black bag. done!

helmets should be a choice for all forms of transport.

i can choose to wear a helmet in my car if i like... but i choose not to

Here abouts Quads are mainly farm tools, if they are on the road they are been driven from field to farm, which begs the question would such legislation be enforcable on private land, and would the Police have the manpower necessary to try an enforce this on the minor roads?
It seems more counterproductive by annoying / criminalizing normal behaviour yet again.

I'd have thought they were used, and crash, off road on farmland, in the main. Perhaps they've become the inner city transport of choice since that chicken advert came on the telly.

Bit of an odd one this though surely because the BBC did make the difference this morning between the old style off road quads used on farms and in fields and the new 'on-road' models coming out specifically for road use amongst busy traffic.

I don't see why you shouldn't have to wear a helmet to be honest?
