A very good friend knows a guy whose sister was beaten so badly about the head, her injuries were so severe that the family were denied the chance to say a final goodbye.

Ryan Backhouse had a row with his 'bird', left her place and appears to have taken out his frustration on a 22 year-old woman. He allegedly punched her repeatedly in the head and she was pronounced dead at the scene with around 80 head injuries.

This story has stunned me, even moreso knowing that the murder charge will be reduced to manslaughter.

Why would the sentence be reduced?

That woman who's husband (she recently got a peerage, I can't remember her name) was kicked to death under similar "random attack" circumstances and they were all given murder sentences.

Its unimaginable how someone like this develops. How do you become this sort of unthinking, uncaring, raging pig of a human?......It is not as if he we just a nice ordinary person who just decided to beat someone to death just to work off a bit of aggro. I honestly have no answer as to what to do with someone like this. Lifetime of hard labour? Death sentence?.....

Sounds good. I can't see why they can't have labour camps. Make the prisoners work or they get regular beatings. Throw the human rights lawyers in prison, too, if they open their stupid mouths. And bring back workhouses.

In a similar situation, I once overheard someone describe the following reaction: A double tap behind the right ear with a .22LR(High Standard model pre-1983 with interchangeable barrel for no ballistics trace). Bury his ass in a lime pit, toss the barrel in a river 30 miles away and let the maggots work their magic. Be sure a friend has made a purchase with your credit card in a distance location, previously reconed and found to have no video surveliance, around the same time. See that he calls using your mobile to a phone booth somewhere random. Go home and watch Top Gear, turn off any other mobiles (it has location marker capability) and speak to no one for 10 hours. Place the clothes you wore in a plastic bag and burn them discreetly the next day far from where you reside.
The preceding was a fabricated scenario that I believe someone was planning to possibly use in a movie script and I in no way advocate that this should be carried out by anyone at anytime. The duly appointed authorities should be allowed to enforce the law. Have a nice day.

Jimbeaux, I seem to be having trouble locating a lime pit. Would a sceptic tank suffice? Otherwise I'm ready... smile

If I was a member of her family, I'd make it my life's goal to wait until he emerged from his (no doubt short) spell in prison...

I quite agree with your sentiment, but is that what the deceased family member would have wanted? For you to ruin your life as well? Probably not. I'd feel exactly the same way, so I'm not arguing against it, I just wonder if it's the most productive approach.

However, as someone else has said, I cannot for the life of me understand why someone like that can't get hard labour in prison for 25 years. I don't really care about the argument that this won't deter people from doing something like this, it's meant to severely punish the person who already has done it.

Exactly.

I don't understand why punishment for a crime has to act as a deterrant to others? If it does then this is a positive side effect.

In my eyes punishment for a crime is there to punish the guilty. And in this case(and ones like it) I see no reason at all that this punishment shouldn't be at the very least hard physical labour, or the death penalty.

Equally how the lawyers stand there and try and get sentences reduced for scum like this are tts too. I know they are doing their job but where are their morals - he needs to die inside.

It's for people like this that make me think that a little bit of Sharia Law can be a good thing.
