Remember the story about the bike thieves in Manchester that the Police watched escape, after they were instructed not to pursue as the perps were not wearing helmets?

This may help to reduce the boiling point...

So they have a nationwide policy not to pursure bike thieves not wearing helmets? So bike thieves know this and feel they can steal bikes with inpunity as long as they don't wear helmets and, as we can now see, kill themselves as a result, got to love the logic.

Can't have a police chase at risk of injuring someone.

Daft I know.

There was a man killed on a bike in York last week, he was riding a bike that was stolen a few days before.

Er wait a fking minute the guy obviously a tt but that doesn't mean (necessarily) that everyone who loved him was (again, necessarily) and I can't see adding to their grief as being terribly gentlemanly.

Seems a bit fking tragic to suggest that death is a fair punishment for theft. Are some of you particularly angry people perhaps?

And for the record, police often don't pursue motorcyclists in built up areas, it's not just the death of the motorcyclist that is the concern. I whole-heartedly support them in this.

I think that it's more a case of people becoming increasingly irritated knowing that thieves are

1) Rarely punished if caught and so reoffend
2) More than likely living off the taxpayer
3) Costing their victims emotionally and financially
4) Breeding future generations of scum paid for by us

IMO, good riddance.

All true of course.

It just seems a little too brutal for my taste.

While I would never advocate that a death sentence would be a suitable punishment for sort of crimes this scrote was committing I can't say I'm exactly sorry to see him go, from the way it's described he apparantly habitually rode around with no helmet on so if he obviously has no concern for his own life why should I?

It depends on the force, but often they will look at it, and say, we're never going to catch that in 530d, unmapped of course, and either call the chase off, or use the helicopter instead.
