Hayes has repeatedly offered to plead guilty to the charges in exchange for a life sentence but these have been rejected by prosecutors.
Does the jury get to know this?

Read that earlier. The story should be shown to everyone against the death penalty. Absolutely sickening.

By the sounds of it that's pretty irrelevant as they are going down no matter what. I'd imagine that the prosecuters are pretty determined to see this one through all the way given the nature of the crime.

Oh of that I have no doubt (and no qualms), I'm just curious if offering to plead guilty can be used as evidence against you.

Nope it can't. And I doubt deals are disclosed to a jury either as it would prejudice the case instantly.

And they will counter with a story of someone freed from death row on DNA evidence or some such. An appeal to emotion is not useful.

It is quite likely that Connecticut is going to abolish the death penalty before long. Best get these two scumbags dealt with ASAP.

Can't help feeling these two just put the anti-death penalty lobby back a good few years.

If (and its a big if) the evidence is as clear cut as it appears there will be no doubt about the guilt. Then the perception they'll be out in 10 years (however inaccurate). Tough on crime, and the economics. Plenty of ammunition there.

I don;t think the evidence, or the crime would sway anyone. Did no-one look at the list of people freed from Death row? It;s not the clear cases that are the issue, it's the ones where the people are innocent.

It says "They face the death penalty" - but they still did it (we assume).

True... but. They are discounted though by this sort of aparrent clear cut case. Of course the nature of the crime sways people, there are degrees of murder. FFS there were people here invoking the death penalty for putting a cat in a wheelie bin!
