Is going!!!

scratchchin

will that not just move the jam along the the start of the Chiswick Flyover, where it will then still be reduced to 2 lanes?

All this achieves is stopping buses and Taxis from queue jumping.

But offers a 50% increase in road capacity.

I commuted along there for 18 months and can only agree - the only thing achieved is removing the queue-jumping buses and taxis (and f-ing Tony Bliar...).

only for a mile or two .

the M4 goes to 2 lanes for the flyover anyway.

Not really, i understand that part of the motorway only goes into 2 lanes a little further up

so it it does is causing the merging to happen a bit later on.

if there are huge queues they will just be shorter over 3 lanes rather than over 2.

Having driven up and down the M4 since it was built (well, since it was built beyond Maidenhead anyway smile ) I have had experience of it with and without the bus lane.

The only advantage that I can see in having it is that it forces all vehicles into two lanes at junction 3, and in truth that is a lot better than the snarl-ups we used to get years ago at the start of the flyover.

A far better move would be to get rid of the bus lane and widen the flyover (the A4 beyond it being three lanes right through to Earls Court except on the Hammersmith flyover), but something tells me that ain't going to happen!

Reading the foregoing, it would appear that many believe that removing the lane won't make much of a difference but the rationale seems to also indicate that it did very little good either.

IMO just a stupid waste of money by an even more stupid politician.
