I didn't know this either.

I was standing in the chemists waiting for my presciption. How long does it take to put one box in one small paper bag, 10 minutes apparently. Anyway I digress.

While I was waiting a woman comes in with a 4 year old and 2 year old and has a presription that looked like the Bible. You know how kids are nowadays, can't sneeze without getting Haspbergers mild ADHT bedtimeitus, so fair enough but then she starts arguing the toss why it had not turned up. What pills and potions was she talking about?

Biscuits (Tell them Dr Vinnie sent you)
Bread
Pizza Bases.

What?! I was agog. I almost expected fish fingers, baked beans and birthday cake to be mentioned next. Why on earth is the state paying for this womans childrens food shopping?

I felt like saying to her " Look love, do you know how many pages have been devoted to parent and child spaces at the supermarket on PistonHeads? Let me tell you, loads. So bloody go and spend some money there and use them.

But I didn't because at that point my prescription for Viagra turned up and I wanted to dash off to knob the next door neighbour before my wife got back.

It's outrageous what people get on the NHS.

I would think that the child suffers from Ceoliac, which means they cannot eat ordinary bread. It is a total intolerance to Gulten. My wife suffers from this and it is not nice, we can get things on prescription but the products they list are awful so we don't.
The cost of special food is huge, the bread my wife has to have is about £3.80 for a small loaf and everything else is like wise. You may think that this woman was feeding the whole family but trust me they would not eat it if they did not have to.

yep, my sister is one, and it tastes disgusting I can assure you.
She'd give anything to eat what 'we' eat, biggrin

Can't they just eat cake wink

Seriously why eat bread at all if they are allergic to it, rather like prescribing Kalibre to an alcoholic.

Adjust your life to cope. I'm somewhat lactose intolerant, manage milk in coffee no problems, can't eat pizza, milkshakes, ice cream, double cream (trifle), so I when I occasionally have to have a pizza I know 20 minutes later I will be sat on the loo crying in agony (sometimes it's a price I'm willing to pay).

Aye. If the stuff was for her child then I have sympathy - you'd want to at least make an attempt at them having a normal looking - diet, but if it's for her I'd have little sympathy.

As someone who has been through stages where various foods unleash hell, you learn to chop stuff out - to some extent. Luckily I'm not at the stage again where if I had a slice of cheesecake I'd have to take the next 2 days off work...

Pretty much what I was thinking. I was going to say that the alternatives were expensive or not nice but surely there is more to food than sandwiches.

Well, look, there is:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/search?diets[]=g...

4000 gluten-free recipes. rolleyes

Why are we buying their food for them again? Can't eat pizza? Tough.

BTW you know what I really fancy sometimes? White tea with two sugars. Which is precisely what will exit my anus about an hour later. So I haven't had that in maybe 25 years ever since I realised milk was causing me problems. Maybe I can get compensation.

I wouldn't say I'm ill. I just can't drink milk. That's not a health issue to me.
