The French are Revolting
Discussion
Black days ahead for us all.....
If this Tory led coalition has the gonads to force its cuts through, I can see the coalition founder within 12 months and a general election witin 18 months. Then Labour will be back in with a land slide.
If they cut dramatically they'll be tossed back into the wilderness of opposition, if they dont they wil struggle to ever form a powerful government

Just to put it into perspective - half the Gallics are kicking off because the Gov't is proposing to raise the retirement age to...
(Wait for it)
......62
The other half are just "demonstrating against authority" as usual.
You have to love the French people for their realistic approach to these things.....or not as the case may be.

Thing is, the UK government just want us all to retire the week before we die, where as the french beleive (rightly imho) that 40 odd years paying taxes to the government is enough to deserve 15 years resting and enjoying life a bit before your're too old.Wait for it!

What do you think you'll be capable of doing when your what, 67, 68, 69? Fek all probably. What kind of 'retirement' will it be going from full time employment straight to needing someone to help you wipe your own arse ?

I particulary love it when the students go on strike complaining about ... the retirement age. As if they knew what they were talking about ... as if anyone gave a flying f
k. A reality check for all those studying now: by the time you get to retire you or one of your peers will have spent the last five years of your career wiping my geriatric arse in a nursing home. I can't wait. Enjoy getting a job and paying your taxes in the meantime. See you in forty years.

Can I wager you on this? You'll probably need to remind me in April 2012 as I'm rubbish at remembering things, but I'm confident that even if there is a foundering before Oct 2011 and another General Election before April 2012 Labour will not "be back in with a land slide."If this Tory led coalition has the gonads to force its cuts through, I can see the coalition founder within 12 months and a general election witin 18 months. The unions don't have the sympathy of the public. It's all very well to think that the public will bite the Tories, but the union members are the exact people who are costing the general public an awful lot of money right now. A fireman goes on strike because he wants £45k, he'll see little sympathy from someone in the private sector who had another pay freeze for the third or fourth year running.
