After a long day at work, I hate having to wash the dishes, iron clothing, go out and get the shopping, take the rubbish out etc so perhaps we can have a benefit scrounger assigned to each working home in the UK as a form of low-class butler to carryout household chores ? biggrin

Would be great as it'd reward the taxpayers by removing the burdens of housework and allow them to make use of the people that they are supporting nuts

"removing the burdens of housework"
Don't think is a viable idea, as I reckon using dolites in your own house, would remove far
more than the burdens of housework.
With todays defence cuts could we not just use them as cannon fodder. We would save money
in the long run.
Andy..

There should be quite a few squaddies, sailors and airmen joining the dole queues soon. Maybe they might think doing your dishes is a comensurate task as an alternative to piloting a Tornado or driving a Challenger tank.

People yet to claim can hardly be called 'longterm' scroungers can they?

And not all long term are scroungers either.

To be honest, the type that really ARE long term scroungers I would not want nowhere near my house or personal belongings.

No-one said all long term were scroungers. You're the only person who has used the terms 'longterm' and 'scrounger' seperately.

I think obligatory public service hours equivilent to the level of benefits minus x hours for each dependent. So someone getting £120 a week would do a miniumum of say 2o hours, minus 2 hours per kid. Mum and Dad would do about 20 hours each for their benefits and free house/prescriptions/leisure etc.

Nice bit of serving meals at the council old folks home, litter picking streets, painting out graffiti, wiping door knobs at the local hospital,

But I am guessing it would cost more to supervise them and make sure they did it than it would to use contractors!

Define a "benefit scrounger" - long term or otherwise.

The problem comes to identifying the TRUE scroungres, the underserving claimants and the downright feckless and separating them from those who truly need benefits to survive.

It's actually extremely difficult to do and governments have struggled with this for decades.

And even if YOU can come up with your definitions of diistincttion, they probably won'tbe in line with other peoples' definitions.

And "long term benefit scroungers" is actually part of the thread title.

I know it is - that was the point of my post. The thread is about people who are 'long term scroungers'. Not long term valid claimants. Not short term scroungers. Long term Scroungers. It was you who insisted on trying to argue about the semantics for no good reason and create unnecesary defintions.

You could trade her in for a younger model that doesn't have the optional extras of autowash/iron/cook hehe

Bit to drink last night there? That almost looks like a grammatical slip.

No - no excuse.

Just a neuron connection problem.

My master plan to combat Welfare scroungers. Currently if you are unemployed you get your Job Seekers allowance, allowances for all your kid, your rent is paid and you also have your council tax paid.
Now we have a minimum wage in this country (artificially low as it happens because it is subsidised by Tax breaks, Tax credits, child allowance etc etc). So lets introduce a realistic minimum wage. If you are unemployed you will receive (say) 75% of the minimum wage. That's it, nothing else, no council tax plaid, no allowances, just 75% of the minimum wage. If you want to improve your quality of life then get off your ass and get a job, or make the decision to be a low life for ever and ever.

Unfortunately there now seems to be a group of people incapable of work. I mean some of the knuckledragging mouthbreathers that slope about, would you want them working for you?

It's like when people advocate putting scrotes in the army - the army doesn't want them.

That annoys me too.
Also they forget that it costs st loads to train people in the forces. Firing a javaline once costs £40k and you have to fire 2 to become qualified IIRC.
That single bit of training just cost more than 3 years of benefits.
