"....Maggie Thatcher, pension snatcher, hurry up and croak so I can go out for a drink to celebrate!"

Facebook status of a "friend"....

FFS

The guy is under 30 so wouldn't even have been an adult under her reign. Really irritates me, she has been gone for over 20 years!!!!! maybe the last lot who were in for 13 have had a hand in todays situation? No, of course not, Labour are there for the working man...it's all the nasty Tories fault.

Grow up!

I had a moron on FB say pretty much the same thing. Ive been in an argument for 2 days now, him posting utter crap and me ruining his argument as he clearly doesnt understand why she was great or even why people dont like her!

My "friend" is a fat moron who was an idiot at school and has supposedly attempted suicide once after literally pissing his life away by the age of 27. He is the archetypal labour voter really.

I've had countless facebook arguments with Guardian-reading, grass-eating, anti-patriotism, pro-EU socialists. One particular comment that really set me off was:

"Help for Heroes is probably on the third tier of charities, alongside donkey sanctuaries and other animal causes"

Socialist bigots...

Amazing how this affects so many people. I was with two leading professors a while ago who thought it quite natural to vote Labour because that was how they were brought up and they were adamant they would never even consider voting for another party.

I can't discuss their area of expertise or they'll probably be identified, but I can say they're international leaders in their field.

Truly difficult to comprehend.

I'm far from an inteligent chsp, but shouldn't one vote for the party whom he believes will do the best for him and for the country? Not, as it would seem many actually do, and blindly vote for the same party time after time after time after time again, regardless of that particular parties manifesto?

One has to wonder, if it had been in Labours manifesto to tax university proffesors 99% of their income, would they still have voted Labour?
Had this with the OH's Gran, she always votes labour "Because she is from a working background" banghead

I'm glad the OH and family have some sense.... smile

She destroyed the manufacturing base in the UK and introduced the conditions that produced our economies reliance on buying and selling bits of paper, which in turn enabled the banks to screw every thing up.

She’ll be dead soon

Or from the other side of the fence she stopped the communist unions from destroying everything

Strange then, that manufacturing in the UK, as a percentage of GDP went from over 25% in 1996 to below 11% in 2010.

I thought Labour, being the party of the 'working man', might have addressed this decline?

bks. You're either lieing, or you've massively embellished this "anecdote" as a fairly transparent and amateurish attack on anyone who doesn't vote for your beloved Tory party.

Only an utter wker would claim that people who have a demonstrably high level of intelligence would vote Labour " 'cos me old dad did" and not because they've thought it through.

Naturally that doesn't work in the opposite direction for you, does it ? Silver spoons voting Tory "because pater, the third earl did"?

I suggest you delete your original post.

The decline is for different reasons though. Pretty much every government of both political stripes has fked up the manufacturing sector.

That lot couldn't address an envelope, my point is that without manufacturing you have nothing, because of what she started we have no manufacturing, one day someone who matters will wake up at three in the morning and say “that’s where it all went wrong”

Can you clarify please, Adrian, which bits of manufacturing industry did she close down?

They exist.

I have a friend, educated, high earner, good bloke, who happily admits that he will only ever vote Labour because A)His family have always voted Labour, and B)Because of 'the miners'. He can't even provide a half-decent argument against any claims of Labour ineptitude etc, more of a 'lalala can't hear you' answer.

90% really good bloke. 10% Political fkwit.

He is not the only one I am aware of.

(I am also aware of some who will only vote Liberal/Tory for historical/family reasons)

I get to live in Glasgow sadly. A decent chunk of people around here would continue to vote Labour if the first line of the manifesto was that they'd rape your wife & eat your first born.

Labour claimed to get rid of the hereditary peers, but they created the hereditary parliamentary constituency up here. The first one was meant to be Michael "Gorbals Mick" Martin's Glasgow North East seat, but in the end it turned out to be Mohammed "blue carrier bag" Sarwar who passed his Glasgow Central seat on to his son Anas.

A PR voting system can't come soon enough for me frown

Wouldn't a first past the post voting system in Parliamentary elections suit you better, though, as most of the concentrated-in-one-area Labour votes would be wasted? Or do you mean PR by wards?

Sorry to upset you, but every word I wrote is true.

They were more intelligent and erudite examples of your good self.
