Another Krakatoa?
Discussion
It's all happening in Indonesia.
Tsunami off Sumatra...
Volcano could go bang in a big way in Java...
CAGW to blame in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Apparently this volcano kicks off quite often. Why do people still live nearby? I would have made a decision to move my family somewhere a safer - might not be easy, but better than the chance of getting frazzled.
Consider Naples: Vesuvius is well overdue, and can be a right b
d when it blows.DangerousMike said:
because on the timescale of a human life it doesn't go off that often.
also most eruptions will be quite small.
also they are generally good places to grow crops.
Granted, but even when the eruption is happening?also most eruptions will be quite small.

Thousands fled their homes on Tuesday as ash spewed out of the volcano, turning the landscape white.
But many people refused to leave, and rescuers fear the death toll may rise.

Government volcanologist Subandrio told AFP the new eruption suggested the government should be "more serious" about enforcing the exclusion zone and possibly widening it.
Alert levels have been raised on four other volcanoes, two of which are definitely showing signs of activity - Anak Krakatau and Mount Semeru.

Solution is so damn obvious, just slap a carbon tax on these annoying volcanoes that'll sort it.Tsunami off Sumatra...

Another Mount Tambora type event would be better. Mother nature's way of telling us we are insignificant little molluscs.
Had to google that. The huge 1815 eruption? Yellowstone would be an interesting eruption. Were all fooked when that pops.TimJMS said:
That's the fella. 1816 was the year without a summer.
Not wishing to detract from the accurately identified severe impact from a supervolcano eruption e.g. Toba in Indonesia or Yellowstone in the USA, the 'year without a summer' of 1816 was almost wholly due to the prolonged drop in total solar activity (irradiance and eruptivity) at the time which resulted in what's now known as the Dalton Minimum. As per the plot below, due to falling solar activity, terrestrial temperatures had already fallen starting about 1790 to the minimum around 1815, volcanic activity then served to intensify the effect but only to a moderate extent and for a short time. Attribution of the dramatic climate cooling in that era to volcanic activity alone is one of the smokescreens (no pun intended) used by activists to pretend that the Sun had no effect on climate back then and 'therefore' is not having any effect now - both are demonstrably false assertions.
Regardless of volcanic activity e.g. the dust cloud which interrupted flights not long ago, solar activity is currently on track for another Dalton-type minimum right now and the drop looks to have started.

but..... but.... that would suggest the sun is in some way responsible for the temperature on earth. we know that's b
ks as the nice people from the bbc said so.tamore said:
