Aren’t they supposed to be cutting government spending?

The Telegraph said:
David Cameron has been mocked by Labour after he gave civil service jobs to a photographer and film-maker who used to work for the Conservative party before the election.

The Cabinet Office confirmed it had given Andrew Parsons, a former Tory party employee described as Mr Cameron’s “vanity photographer”, a job in the civil service.
Nicky Woodhouse, a filmmaker who has made hundreds of the 'web Cameron' films for the Tory party, has also been put on the civil service payroll.

The pair have been hired by the Cabinet Office on a one year contract, worth around £35,000 each, with a brief to work across all Government departments.
The jobs were not advertised to anyone else and their positions did not exist under the last Government, prompting strong criticism from Labour.

Does the Cabinet Office really need it's own photographer?

In the spirit of 'the big society' can't they use volunteers (unemployed photographers who need a bit of work experience)?

This sort of thing does add to the impression that Cameron/Osborne are a bit out of touch with the spirit of austerity, there can hardly be a shortage of newspaper cameramen taking pictures wherever they go so why waste money on employing their own?

If they can't show that they are cutting back on things that cause them some discomfort then the voters who are paying for everything are not going to view them well at the next election.

Bloody hell... Let's get the billions in order, and then worry about a bloke who has a 35K a year job.

Come on, if this was Winky or BLiar the guy would be getting crucified. When hundreds of thousands are losing their jobs, recruiting a photog is hideously crass, and willl probably end up as his milk snatcher moment.

The blinkers on some here are hysterical.

I'm sure some would. I think there is more to be concerned about than a 35k a year job.

So a government putting 500,000 people out of work, some/many in front line services, is justified in hiring at public expense a guy to take photos of a multi millionaire....

If this was Winky, I fear that the whole N, P and E forum would have discombobulated into an ocean of urine...

Dont you understand this is perfectly acceptable because these self serving idiots wear blue ties. If they wore red ties it would be terrible.

Don't forget if you are going to give a mate a well paid job doing bugger all you must wear a blue tie and it will be fine.

Now where is that thread about bias in the beeb.

No, that's what I said because it has my name next to it.

You say it's not an issue, I say it's a massive nose-thumbing at a significant section of the public. He's also given LieBore a huge stick to beat them with.

Not aimed at you, but it does seem that a lot of people on here see bias everywhere, except within themselves.

Well my point was that we should get the 500,000 sorted, or the billion of national debt we have sorted before we get all worked up over one person, and 35K salary. It is a drop in the hat in the grand scheme. It seems like petty party politics to me.
