So she finds out about his money and goes for the kill. Whether or not he could afford to lose the money is not really the point here but the fact that his ex wife saw the opportunity to suck some more out of him. Beats working hard for it.

A bit off isn't it? Was she not happy with the deal beforehand? Let this be a lesson to all those who think hiding their money during a divorce will stay with them. I best not let my ex find out about the £650 I had moved.

He tried to hide the money during the divorce and now has to pay, he brought it all on himself.

But isn't that what most of the guys do when going through this? It's the normal response in most threads here.

Just thinking from a different perspective here. Yes it was wrong for him to hide the money, but at the end of the day, he said he'd pay for the children and that money was earnt by him.

yes

Have seen a few quotations for Ferraris that "need" tens of thousands in repair work, just before a divorce case hits the courts hehe

The internet is full of bravado, if there was a picture of the ex-wife then there would be tons of posts about back doors being kicked in.

If she was some bimbo who had been married to him for 5 minutes then I would agree she was a gold digger and deserved nothing, they were married for 23 years though. He tried it on and got caught, I'm surprised the judge didn't threaten him with jail.

I thought all assets were considered in a divorce, so the value of the shares were already considered, so why should he have to pay extra just because he sold them.

This is what I'm trying to get at. If everything had been previously resolved and she was happy with the settlement, why jump on his money now?

Did you ignore the bit about them being married for 23 years and having 3 children?
What if she was a financier too, and at the point they had kids they made a joint decision that she would quite her job to look after them rather than him.
DOes she not deserve half of everything?
23 years. THats a lifetime. TO say shes "sucking more" out of him is frankly pathetic.

There's too much 'sucking' in this thread for my liking...

The article doesn't give the full details of the case. The Telegraph gave more details in the Friday paper (can't find the article on their website they have a useless search facility) . He worked for the company and was allocated the shares while divorce proceedings were well under way. In law she might well have been entitled to a share, but I don't really see how she has a moral right to income generated after the marriage had already broken down.

I always use my parents as an example of this.
Both qualified doctors with the same prospects ahead of them.
When children came along they had long discussions about who was going to stay working and who was goign to look after the kids and finally decided my dad would stay at work.
So over the next 15 years he builds a career whilst my mother no longer has that opportunity as there are 4 of us. In the end they split up. My mum is in her 40's- hasnt the same opportunities as my dad becasue she hasnt gone on to get appropriate qualifications etc.
They have gone into everything together- why should he leave the marriage with everything just because he happened to earn the money- and my mother with nothing?
Think about that example again and imagine my dad had become a house husband and was left at the end with no prospects

Yes of course. I know blokes who have done very well financially out of a divorce. They're the ones who have terrible relationships with their exes and never see their children though. They 'won' by being willing to spend more on lawyers and be more ruthless and their ex wives, who eventually ran out of money to fight them.

You misunderstand my point.

I quite agree with divorced women getting a fair settlement. Where it is a long term marriage with children etc, it may well be that a fair settlement would be 50/50 of the income generated during the marriage, regardless of who earnt the money. Where I do have one issue with that principal is where this 50/50 settlement is still maintained where one partner is extremely financially successful, the self made multi millionaires and so forth.

In this particularly case the shares were awarded and he earnt this money from the company, which was a new job after he took early retirement, AFTER the marriage had broken down. What exactly had she contributed to him earning this money since the marriage was already over and they were in divorce proceedings?
