So the NUJ are striking at the BBC today apparently. I was most confused when switching on the radio in the car to find some program with Digby Jones talking about Churchill instead of the Today programme. What I find strange is I listen to Today for around 40 minutes each morning and I didn't hear any mention of this strike yesterday.

Confused me for a while with no 'Today' on the radio at breakfast time. Thought the clocks had gone wrong somehow... hehe

Odd that the news was still broadcast . . . the only thing missing was the left wing commentators. Did they think it was really going to bother anybody ?

Seems not to have changed broadcasting too much.

Idiots.

I guess that this stupid little spat has proven that we don't need the usual news readers anymore. Can they all be sacked and could we keep the stand-ins?

I wasn't even aware this was happening, shouldn't they have to give notice to the public that their striking so we can all show out disapproval of these overpaid idiots?

I refuse to pay more tv licence so they can have better perks.

I've quite enjoyed ITV's coverage of the strikes.

Their clip of a stand-in BBC news presenter saying "Hi I'm Gary Wotsername" followed by the ITV reporter saying "Gary who?.. Stand in reporters are at the BBC today [blah blah blah]..." must have made them chuckle to themselves.

To be fair (not that I have investigated this in great detail) aren;t they protesting against changes that would be applied retrospectively to their pension funds, rather than just for future accrual?

If so, I can understand their issues.

I can see them not getting a lot of sympathy from the public. I would make sure those "stars" who did not go to work had a short contract.

Cant say much has suffered from this. Except that the "news room" in the background of the local news is completely empty!

I turned on the News this morning (always BBC because I detest Adrian Slimes) and expected to find no coverage.

Instead I got a non stop news programme from some bloke (never did find out his name, because it didn't matter) who just "did" the morning's news.

No simpering tart inna red frock trying to bounce smiles off her sidekick while dramatising a boring days news topics (Cut to someone in a wind farm somewhere off the B1098 for a quick non item).

No him doing the same basking in her fem-ness and frequent flashes of her bare knees.

Just a bloke telling us about the daily news, including the NUJ strikers.

To be very honest (even as a red blooded hetero geezer) I preferred it.

I thought about writing to Aunty congratulating her on the new Morning News Concept.

Maybe I will.

+1

Thursday's brekkie program from the BBC much
better than usual.

No simpering, pandering coverage of what's got
the Guardian in such a lather, just straight forward
news without the leftie nonsense.

Some bloke I've never heard of played a blinder
- no silly nonsense with a made up double act.

Mind you, I normally tune into Sky News for
better coverage anyway.

It's nothing to do with the news presenters, they are showing support to those who work behind the scenes. The major hole in the BBC pensions was caused by the "holiday from contributions" that the BBC Management took over many years. While paying themselves obscene salaries and pensions.
