I am surprised, especially due to some of the rampant snobbery that goes on in this place, that this hasn't been noticed already... wink

Pontin's, the chain of holiday camps famous for its blue coat entertainers such as Shane Richie and Bobby Davro, has called in the administrators.
The five holiday parks have seen holidaymakers cancel bookings after customers posted clips on the internet showing poor conditions.

I'm guessing you didn't watch Watchdog the other night then?

Surprised. Pointins in Pakefield (Suffolk) has always been quite busy and you always see droves of them waiting for the bus or walking towards Lowestoft in the summer periods. They also hold some gigs there and I thought they had a 'revamp' a few years back to get rid of the 'hello campers' look.

I used to have a holiday bar job at Pontins Southport (20 years ago), a truly truly truly awful place. Why people would pay to go there is beyond me, it was more like a POW Camp. The only bonus was I used to get to work the Dance Weekenders.

Granted, the management decision to branch out in the previous 20 years - with the resulting Pontin's Sarajevo, Pontin's Beirut, Pontin's Kabul and Pontin's Eyjafjallajoekull - might look slightly misguided now, but that is only because we have the benefit of hindsight.

Frankly, I think the administrator should approach the Russians, as potential White Knight investors.

"Welcome to Putin's"

They could save a fortune on the signs for a start. Airbrush out the 'o', and invert the 'n'. Sorted.

Own up.

Who was the evil git who sold her a labrador in a pony suit?

Edited: What the Hell this has to do with Pontin's, I don't know, but I'm sure....sure...there is a connection.

I will not be surprised until one religion allows only guide-snakes.

I think I casually assumed Pontins had gone bust sometime in the early 1980s.

You're thinking of Maplins in the 1980s when the BBC cancelled Hi-de-hi.

I read about guide horses years ago, they're brilliant - much better than dogs at the actual guiding and sitting about waiting for you
it's just that they are usually too big, as hers is
the ones I read about they selected the very tiniest of tiny horses to train up

As some may have have noticed there's a bit of a recession on and it's slaughtering all manner of hotels, restaurants etc.

FT reported on Friday that the bak pulled its credit facility, despite £100 million investment programme underway. Shame really as Ocean Parcs looked liked they were committed to improving it over time.

Will be interesting to see who picks it up from KPMG...
