This is a nationwide campaign that does not belong to any one political party.

The pledge said:
I support a referendum on who governs Britain: the EU or our elected parliament. I understand that Britain's membership of the European Union is central to this issue.
I want a Britain that trades and co-operates with the rest of Europe, as well as the international community beyond the EU.
I am happy for my Pledge to be communicated to the Prime Minister, my local MP and the political parties, as part of the strategy todeliver an EU Referendum.

The pledge is as follows:

I support a referendum on who governs Britain: the EU or the elected German parliament. I understand that Britain's membership of theBundesrepublic Deutschland is central to this issue.

I want a Britain that belongs entirely to Germany, but is allowed to trade with the international community beyond the EU.

I am happy for my Pledge to be communicated to Angela Merkel, the British Prime Minister (by way of a P45), my local MP and the political parties, as part of the strategy todeliver an EU Referendum.

Whatever your political views, you can sign up below. It's got to be worth a try.

Ooh, you're being deliberately facetious, I can tell! Now please read on.

The strategy behind The Pledge:

The only way to enforce our right to vote in an EU Referendum is to harness and channel the enormous voter power of the British people. This is precisely what our campaign intends to achieve.

The political elite of all parties have consistently ignored our right to vote on the most important of all issues. Now is the time to turn the tables and direct intense pressure on those holding, and wishing to hold in future, public office.

The EU Referendum Pledge campaign will do this by registering the public support of everyone who demands the right to be consulted directly. As the number of people taking The Pledge increases we will inform the government, sitting MPs, as well as the prospective candidates of rival parties in their constituencies, of the running total of voters in each seat demanding our Referendum.

We will be naming and shaming MPs and candidates who refuse to commit as well as publicising and praising the names of those who
have themselves signed The Pledge. We will go into marginal constituencies and challenge the local politicians and prospective candidates at public meetings to account for their respective positions on this key issue. Leaflets will be distributed door to door keeping constituents informed about where the local politicians stand.

In this way, we will create a dilemma for those MPs and parties that want to continue resisting our democratic rights on the European question. Unless they concede to our Referendum demand, they risk losing the support of those local voters who have taken the Referendum Pledge. In a volatile political situation in which support for all three parties is very shallow and uncertain, the politicians will do this at their peril.

Equally, our campaign will reward those MPs and candidates of all parties who do the right thing and publicly declare that they will vote in the House of Commons for an EU Referendum Bill.
If you have doubts about our EU membership, then you should at least add your name. Public support is required.

UKIP

Can't expect any mainstream political party to have any honesty or integrity with the electorate.
