As I cruised the motorways today it occurred to me there is a perfect solution to the financial difficulties currently facing the Emerald Isle. With the gift of the blarney and so many great talents it's not the IMF they need; not the EU and not even the UK - but more of a "group hug" fundraising event led by some of their greatest talents. With a good local crowd and potentially a worldwide TV audience it can't be too difficult to revive the collective spirit of Live Aid!

I'm thinking along these lines and will throw in a few names for starters. Can you suggest more artists and performances for the big show?!

Sir Terry Wogan - MC

Status Quo - [the big opener] Down Down Deeper and Down.

Sir Bono of Edge - Achtung Baby (an ode to Angela Merkel)

Sir Bob Geldof - I Don't Like Mondays (not on reduced minimum wage)

Boyzone - [performing under their new name "Eurozone"] Brighter Days

Westlife - Fool Again/Flying Without Wings/Don't Say It's Too Late [medley]

Michael Flatley - Sold Down the River Dance (by Fianna Fail)

Thin Lizzy (tribute) - The IMF Boys Are Back In Town

The Answer - Never Too Late....

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton sing "Island in the sh*t"

Islands in the sh*t
That is what we are
No cash we have seen
Where did it go wrong?
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on the UK, ah-ah
From one poorper to another, ah-ah

The Pogues, performing the "Turkish,Spanish,Portguese,Greek, Irish Song of the Damned"

Edited - more apt that I originally thought:

You remember when the ship went down
You left me on the deck
The captain's corpse jumped up
And threw his arms around my neck
For all these years I've had him on my back
This debt cannot be paid with all your jack

Bono paid tax here up until a couple of years ago. I dont think Bonos tax, or lack of it will make one bit of difference to the sh*te we are in. We need to get rid of the government, but the opposition are as bad and in some cases even worse. Then to top it off, we have the Right Honourable MP for West Belfast, who is seeking election in the 26 counties, in the constituency were I live. FFS.

At least one group of people are trying to get rid of the main enemy wink

£2bn of our money the EU spend on propaganda each year, epic FAIL.. they should have kept Goebbels.

Are EU flags made in China?
It's all going to hell anyway... pushing Ireland into something they didn't want has spooked Portugal and Spain now, it's getting quite interesting, hope they're proud of the damage this is causing the average Joe.

Well given the efforts of Geldof, Bono et al I had assumed that someone in Ethiopa would be holding a concert for Ireland. Leprechaun Aid or something.

Now you are talking!! Jake Burns = genius.

Alternative Ulster Bank?
Suspect derivative?
Straw PIIGS

I'm guessing nobody under 45 will have the faintest idea what we're going on about! Belfast based SLF were/are widely acknowledged as the finest punk ever. If you like Pistols etc check them out.
