Im not sure about 'happiness', but GDP is a bloody awful way of measuring the economy, which they, at last, seem to be looking for alternatives to.

It's 3p per person. I can live with that.

Slightly more to it than asking people if they're happy if you read beyond the headline and opening paragraph, but don't let than stop the sensationalism.

If you asked me to conduct a comprehensive national survey programme I'd charge more than that, and it wouldn't return me any profit. As a means of keeping a finger on the pulse of the nation and gaining some useable feedback, I don't object actually. I'm not a tory apologist, but it seems like a good idea, and certainly beats the last shower of dribbling spacktards telling us what we want.

Given the FSA alone (until recently) spent nearly three quarters of a million quid a year on tea, coffee and biccies, I'm not going to get outraged by £2M spent on something which on the face of it, seems like a half decent idea to me.

No, you've read the BBC article, and taken a stance which frankly I can't be arsed to debate or argue, I'm not new to the internet and can see these pointless back-and-forths which do nothing other than waste time coming a mile away, sorry. I've made my point and I stand by it - if they genuinely use it as a useful feedback metric, good. You wouldn't have even heard about it until recently, so let's try and recalibrate our outrage a little. £2M is wouldn't clear a few minutes worth of interest repayments on our national debt.

If you're truly as outraged as you make out, write to your MP or something.

Isn't the whole point of a forum to discuss/debate?

Would you like a hand to untwist your knickers?

Indeed, as opposed to going round in circles arguing the toss over something not worthy of it. If it was something significant I'd understand the outrage. Rest assured my frilly knickers remain completely untwisted, it's not me that gives a toss, plus I've seen the colour of the grem under your fingernails so you can keep your hands to yourself hehe

Another pile of Government meddling and this time its from the blue rinse brigade. Thought that this would be the last thing they would want to turn their attention onto. Most likely just jobs for the 'Boys in ties'.

Its a pointless waste of money. We shouldn't expect to be happy. Nor should we expect the government to try to make us happy. Happiness is a fleeting, transitory emotion that occasionally occurs between boredom and misery. There is nothing wrong with misery. It is a perfectly decent emotion and should be encouraged.

They should spend £2m rebranding misery as basic happiness - then nearly everyone can be labelled "happy" and we can all carry on. Similar to the tactic taken with school exams.

What is he doing that will cost £2m?.

Shirley all you need to do is ask each MP to speak to a randomly selected group of their constituents and get feedback, MP comes back with notes = country happy and things getting back on track . . . . MP comes back with black eye / broken nose / stab wounds = country not happy and things not getting back on track, its hardly rocket surgery is it rolleyes
