So will it be a flying kick in the face of the financial system as it stands? Will it lead to any significant reform? Will anyone notice other than a few thousand cheese eating types?

I'm genuinely interested how big or small an impact such action could have.
Is there likely to be a collective brain fart from the banks financial systems, so far none of them have stated (openly) that they've had a significant level of people requsting withdrawls of mahoosive amounts of cash.

I'd be curious to know if the people who are withdrawing all their money are also repaying their credit cards, mortgages, and personal loans in full at the same time. You can't go 'bank free' without clearing your debts. Sadly, I think the hypocritical eejits won't see it this way.

"More than 34,000 people around the world, mainly in France, Italy and Britain, have taken Cantona's big idea seriously."

Having seen the type of people who want to destroy capitalism, I'd say that the run on the banks will be about £34,000.

If they've got more than a couple of thousand in the bank then they won't be able to withdraw it all without an appointment anyway.

The biggest French bank, BNP Pariba (who advertise a lot on Sky).
Don't think they'd do too well over here, like Santander, with those 3 initials.

That would make people withdraw their cash!

Bank with BNP.

So I think if everyone went in and closed their accounts rather just withdrew money then that "might" have in impact if it was one bank. So they could in theory bring an individual bank some significant problems... However they won't be that organised or intelligent!

I seem to remember Arthur Scargill claiming he had a masterplan that would overthrow capitalism. If everyone flushed their toilet at the same time the brothers would prevail. I don't recall it working.

the bank would run out of notes before long.

I hope cantona is going to withdraw his entire fortune in cash. might well be worth catching a ferry and mugging the fool.

Indeed. And unless international datelines are at play, banks and capitalism seem just fine this morning. Well there's a surprise.

Why would you withdraw your money to destroy capitalism? If it works, you're left with a load of worthless bits of paper.

Because like all these things, it's been thought though only so far as is convenient for the ideology concerned. You make a good point.

Would that be multi- millionaire Eric Cantona who's entire fortune and career was funded via capitalist driven employment?
