I heard it was related to a ship (possibly Italian, although I may be confused) dumping several hundred sheep carcasses in the sea in that area, attracting additional sharks. Think it was on R4 maybe last night?

To be fair, the usage of 'chum' to attract sharks to boats off the coast is often blamed for bringing sharks closer to shore (Australia, Florida, South africa etc) so I guess that if a lot of blood / meat was dumped into the waters around tourist spots that it would attract marine predators.


However it does seem a bit far fetched.
