Shamelessly stolen from Andrew Gilligan's (excellent) blog, he publishes details of the demands made of the London Olympic Organisers by the IOC.
Gilligan said:
- At least 40,000 hotel rooms to be provided for the International Olympic Committee, dignitaries and other official guests for the duration of the Games (this figure does not include competitors, of course – they’re housed in the Olympic village);

- The Queen must attend a special IOC ceremony and meet all IOC members;

- Union Jack to be flown fifth in order of precedence at stadium;

- French must take precedence over English at Olympic ceremonies;

- “Pageantry and billboards” in French and English to be erected across London;

- Control over “commercial” logos on spectators’ clothes. Unauthorised “hats, visors and T-shirts” to be confiscated;

- Personal chauffeurs for 700 IOC members or officials (recommended);

- Pool chauffeurs for a further 400 IOC officials (recommended);

- Enforce “brand protection” for Olympics and its sponsors by “conducting surveillance.” Police to be diverted from preventing crime to preventing “ambush marketing” by the sponsors’ commercial rivals. Olympic officials to be given power to enter private homes and confiscate unauthorised goods;

- Enforce “behaviour modification” on Londoners’ travel (because many of London’s normal transport resources will be diverted to serve the Games)
As a serious comment, why the emphasis on French?

And as another serious comment, how far down the river have we, the UK, been sold, in order to have this 'flagship event'?

They can go fk them selves, I'm going to go dressed in the complete opposite of the official sponsors just to see whether our police would actually dare to try to make you take the clothes off ... what are they going to do, make me go naked?

I will go one up on that, I am not fking going at all. I am going to lurk about in my garage pissing about with my V8 or some other smoky old snotter, I am ignoring all the bks to do with and surrounding the olympics, in fact, this thread may well be about the only head space I ever give it.

The Olympic brand is very heavily controlled and its illegal to sell any clothing with the Olympic or 2012 logo on it without permission (i.e fake stuff).

What they are talking about here is ambush marketing like we saw at the World Cup where a company specifically sets out to advertise its brand somehow.

They are not talking about normal people just walking around in branded gear.

A company that ambush markets (is that the right phrase?) at the 2012 Olympics may just sell me the first piece of branded sportswear I ever own.

In fact, the whole Olympics thing stinks so much I am almost tempted to start a marketing company just to do some ambush marketing at the Olympics. Slap bang in the middle of the opening (or closing) ceremony - I don't care which.

When the Govt agreed to the Olympics they agreed to the demands of the Olympic people which has strong regulations on advertising as they make a lot of their money from advertising and merchandising.

There will be an 'exclusion zone' around the Olympics sites that people will not be allowed to advertise in unless they are an official sponsor - though i dunno how big that area will be.
