Absolutely knocking it out of the park, one of the only i've seen on the programme able to school Marr if he tries throwing in a few curveballs. Why doesn't Cameron make more of him in the current scene like Blair has been used recently by labia??? He's been there and done it.

I was just thinking the same thing. A very well thought out and expertly delivered interview.

I THINK I agree with you - except I don;t fully understand the style of English you are using.

What does to "school" someone mean? To educate them?

Andrew Marr is one of the few of the current crop of self opinionated, smug, arse licking Labourites that I would happily punch in the face....repeatedly. I dunno why but his attitude really grates, I think it's because he comes across as utterly brainwashed and, seemingly, unable to think for himself yet, at the same time, able to be very excited about it

From behind, over a pile of red boxes, wasn't it? Caught a dose of salmonella, I believe.

Problem is, I think people who wouldn't ordinarily watch Marr would actually think he's hugely bright and on a par with the intellect of Stephen Fry or say Jeremy Paxman (though the latter i'd like to punch in the face) when I don't think this is the case. I just loved the fact John Major was running rings round him and batting away questions easily- when in the past Marr has made things difficult and uncomfortable for even so-called high calibre guests. Not that i'd put Danny Alexander in that category- but he definitely made him look and sound awkward a few minutes earlier.

Maybe it was easier for Major because he's not answering questions on policies he's been responsible for implementing and on the side-lines?

Cameron won't touch him because of the poll tax climbdown. Whatever your view on poll tax, it's an easy target for labour.

Not seen all of it, but Major did well. Marr isn't in the same league.

Too much bother.

To "school" someone traditionally meant to "teach", "train" or "educate" a person. I was wondering if the OP was using the word in a different context which I didn't understand.

John Major is the "nice tory" wheeled out for special occasions such as Andy Marr.

I've always thought Major was one of the most honest, decent men politics has ever produced. That interview said it all, 'acting in the national interest' ...

I was discussing this with the wife whilst watching this morning.

One hypothesis we considered is that a retired politician, without the constant need to remain 'on message', will tend to provide a far more relaxed interviewee experience.

If the individual is in possession of a degree of knowledge and experience and is able to impart this in an eloquent and articulate manner they will undoubtedly shine.
