Recent events - strikes, student marches etc - have reminded me of the bad old days in the 70s. That was a time when the politics of the left thoroughly ruined this country in my honest opinion. Power cuts, 3 day weeks, shortages of just about everything, rubbish in the streets, 6 months to get a land line phone connected, crap industrial relations with unions making completely unrealistic demands, crap quality, crap service and so much more.
Now, after 13 years of New Labour what do we have?

A politicised civil service
A biased BBC
A thoroughly ruined education system (mind you, this started in the 1960/70s with the comprehensive movement)
A breakdown of any sense of personal responsibility
A population which has a "sense of entitlement" to everything they see regardless of how little effort they put in
A bankrupt economy
A significant chunk of the population who cannot see the significance of UK Plc being bankrupt
A debt we can barely imagine the scale of - 4.5 trillion pounds!
Ruined armed forces
Obliterated personal pensions (to fund the public sector golden pension pot)
Destroyed financial controls - with predictable results
A wrecked constitution
A weakened UK union
Add to list as you see fit

I honestly believe that all the above can be laid at the door of the left. Now, whilst many would counter by pointing to Tory failures in the past, there is no doubt that historically, Tory governments have left office with the nation richer than when they came to power, and Labour governments have always left office with the country poorer than when they came to power - in the present case, disastrously so. When you look at the blatant mendacity and dishonesty and sheer delusional outpourings of the left over the past few years, even with the mess we are in now, it simply fries my brain cells that they think they can get away with it, or even believe what they are saying - but they do! How is that even possible? We see them even here on PH, trotting out blatant lies as if they were gospel! Crankedup did it yesterday with his lie (amongst many) about Thatcher claiming there is no such thing as society.. Now he surely has to know that what he said was not true, but he said it anyway - How in any way is that helpful to the debate?

I'm to the point where I think that the left is simply too dangerous for the UK economy and society to ever risk them being elected again. How do we prevent a disaster? How do we stop the BBC and the public sector unions leading the X factor sheeple along the path to ruin in 2015. As sure as eggs is eggs, the left is fighting that election on the streets right now! Whether all those students understand their cannon fodder role in this is beside the point.

Until the UK population accept they must pay higher levels of taxation for the services they demand at the ballot box nothing is going to change.

I totally disagree. It is the wasteful spending which is responsible for the state of services, not the total tax revenue coming in. Which is why this Government are going to town on the frankly ridiculous Welfare state. Get in.

The majority say no. Go to the polls and say "We will abolish the welfare state and give everyone a tax cut", see what happens.

Then perhaps it should be weighted voting for high earners, i.e. those who contribute most and take so very little in the way of services? Just playing devils advocate here.

You're right- it wouldn't be voted in, and you know why? Because there are shedloads of people/voters absolutely milking this country and contributing a tiny percentage of the total tax paid.

How does slapping a 50% tax for £150k+ a year encourage people to better themselves, huh? All it does it make people think seriously about buggering off to Dubai or Switzerland and let the whole thing come tumbling down.

Most people vote left wing in this country because they arent paying for the full cost of the welfare state, their children will.

Raise taxes the 50% needed to cover the whole cost of government and see how quickly voters views change.

What you say at the polls and what you do once in government are in no way related.

Maybe something has to be destroyed before it can be recreated on more stable foundations.

Ah but the trouble is the Left spend the money to fund the welfare system and expansion of state control. Once they have messed things up to a point it can no longer be ignored they get voted out. Then the right have to make the unpopular decisions to raise taxes to actually pay for those services, cut back the state excesses and generally fix all the problems. Once this is done then the right are then voted out because they were "nasty to the working classes", put up taxes and cut benefits plus made all sorts of other cutbacks and the left get back in with a fresh batch of loony ideas.

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

It's not pharking rocket science.

I just can't wait until the water cannons come out in London soon. Preferably when it's hovering just around freezing.

I'll be glued to the TV coverage with popcorn ready.

Me too. People need a reminder about what happens when they vote in a right wing government.
