BBC becoming a tabloid?
Discussion
It’s a pity but I wonder if the BBC is slowly turning into the Daily Mail?

“Bruises
"When he got drunk or had a bit of smoke he got a bit teary-eyed or emotional, like something had happened in his past," says Lisa.
"He would try to say something, but just started crying and shut up. He'd get annoyed and kick you out of his flat."
The three murdered women worked as prostitutes in the Bradford area
Although Griffiths pulled Lisa's hair and pinned her on the bed, leaving bruises, she wasn't concerned for her safety until two months before his arrest.
It was then that he started to show her even more violent internet pornography.
"I was shocked, I actually threw up," she says. "He was getting a kick out of it."
Lisa says that Griffiths then got violent, and she wanted to leave his flat.
"I was trying to get out of his flat, it got a bit forceful. He had his hands around my neck.
"Luckily, I managed to get away. I got dressed and left.
"I said I wasn't interested any more. When I next saw him he asked why I hadn't been around.
"I said 'I told you the last time I saw you'. He started calling me names and shouting after me down the road. I just kept on walking."
Is it just me? The BBC used to be about the facts without the sensationalism. This article may not be the best example of the point I am trying to make, as clearly there are facts without shouty words lik "evil, etc" and it’s not a Daily Mail style “breathing air will give you cancer” type thing, but the presentation of the tabloid style headline, style, etc is perhaps what got me to post.
Oh, just for the specials around, I am not suggesting that everything on the BBC is crap, or that it's just a tabloid. I am using hyperbole and still very much admire the BBC for what it is.

I agree with the BBC comment especially when it comes to reporting the bloody weather and Heathrow.
Its always "artic" weather and "blasting" winds, FFS you've had a little snow and its been a bit cold. I'm sure all you luvies at the BBC will survive.
Think of the poor sods in Scotland who have had this for the last month!
Rant over!

I was completely bemused by this
Blue Lights legislation for Community Responders story which came up when I Googled for something - especially the last few headings. The I realised it's not actually a BBC page!

"artic"...I heard many of them saying this. Its "arctic" is it not?Its always "artic" weather and "blasting" winds, FFS you've had a little snow and its been a bit cold. I'm sure all you luvies at the BBC will survive.

And the 'in' word for ALL the news channels is "Chaos". The amount of times I've heard this mentioned only to be shown pictures of people quietly sleeping or queuing because they are waiting for their plane to be rescheduled is unbelievable.
Not exactly 'chaos' is it?
The next time I hear the word 'chaos' in relation to the weather I want to see things on fire, things exploding, people running around like mad-men with their arms in the air, police shooting at random shizzel with the final words of the news report saying "there you have it, we're all FOOKED!".
Then it would be worthy of the word 'chaos'!

'Becoming' is the only word I disagree with - where have you been the last 10+ years? The BBC now make ITV news look 'broadsheet'.
Still some way to go to catch up withFoxSky News though.
Agree, and find I very often go ITV news. Recall some years back Senior Journo's in the Beeb disgruntled on the 'dumbing down' of the 'serious reporting' aspects.Still some way to go to catch up with
No, ITV is turning into the Daily Mail/Express. If their presenters frowned any more and tried to look any more serious, they would embed their foreheads in their chins. They also seem to make up up for the lack of a story by ranting and being massively outraged about non-issues.
What really annoys ne, however, is the way they turn past tense into present tense. It is like listening to a post-match interview with a football manager. Even academics who really should know better are doing it.

Only a few days ago there was Evan Davies on 'Today' at breakfast time saying to an interviewee:
"...surely you think that's taking the piss don't you?"
Hardly the sort of language Lord Reith would have tolerated.
ETA: I used to resort to Channel Four News but the John Snow/New Labour propaganda machine is sickening.

I don't understand what Evan Davies is doing on Today. You can sense the other presenters' embarrassment whenever he speaks. He's lightweight, ignorant, PC, sycophantic and unfunny. He should be on Radio 1."...surely you think that's taking the piss don't you?"

to be fair every other word out of Jon snow's mouth on C4 news last night to the BAA exec for heathrow was "Shambles", followed up by the media staple "will you resign?!" I'm guessing Snows holiday plans have been ruined! Its always "artic" weather and "blasting" winds, FFS you've had a little snow and its been a bit cold.
