Owner needs to get a few hired helpers with menace and personally evict them. Then what will happen, they go and cry to the police that they were evicted from the house, doubt it. The owner can make up any story he likes, like "they left when asked" because once he's back inside they can't re-enter. Of course the hired help offering to drop them off back home via a 31,000ft rapid descent from the cargo bay of an aircraft over Latvia might persuade them just to bugger off quietly.
I think he needs........

Why do we have such weak laws in place to counter this?
Shirley as soon as the owner rings the police and states 'I haven't given them permission to be in the house' then they should be arrested and taken away straight away.
I know such laws are sticky, we have similar trouble in certain states here. However, this seems just too much over the top to be all true. Is it?Shirley as soon as the owner rings the police and states 'I haven't given them permission to be in the house' then they should be arrested and taken away straight away.

I think the law dates from the 1800s.
ETA: I just googled and a very helpful website which offers advice to new squatters (yes, really!) says it was 1865. It also advises on what steps you should take once you're squatting to make sure it's really difficult to get you back out.

A homeless man who squatted in a Belfast apartment over Christmas to escape the freezing weather has been jailed for six months.
Robert Lewandowski, 29, used keys he had stolen weeks earlier to move into the south Belfast flat once a woman who lived there left for the holidays.
The Polish national was said to have taken nothing during a four-day stay.

I know this story is a perfect PH/mail story but there are serious issues in the UK with the affordability of housing.
The rentier class are creaming off more and more from our productive enterprise. It's hardly surprising when people say "feck working in a NMW job, I'm gonna freeload instead".
We need cheap housing again. That's going to mean taking power from the nations landowners and actually building on some of our countryside. NIMBYs aren't going to like it.
