Nice to see a quite refreshing "f
k Off" to the unions threats/rhetoric.
I wonder what Miliband's stance would be?
(before the inevitable comments unions do have their place, I'm talking about the veiled threats to bring the country to its knees)
Unions do have their place. Looking after the welfare of their members. Not playing politics and pretending they run the country by bribing the labour party.

I have honestly always wanted to work somewhere that have these halfwits threatening strike action just so I could bait them by totally ignoring their strikes.
Surely there are enough unemployed people in this country to just sack the lazy barstewards who won't work.
sadly I think you would find they were even lazyier barsstewards Surely there are enough unemployed people in this country to just sack the lazy barstewards who won't work.

You'd think so wouldn't you? But for some reason we don't do it, maybe Union uprisings allow new laws and taxes to be passed under the radar whilst the media focuses on the thugs trying to ruin peoples lives. ie The Unions serve a purpose for governmentSurely there are enough unemployed people in this country to just sack the lazy barstewards who won't work.

I do - an industry where the RMT are the main union. In the five years I've been in the industry, strikes have been called at least twice every year yet neither I or any of my colleagues have stopped working.Surely there are enough unemployed people in this country to just sack the lazy barstewards who won't work.
I have been known to give the pickets a cheery wave as I've driven into work.

Why can Unions in other countries manage to look after their members without continued veiled threats to "bring the country to its knees"?
In general, why are most UK TUC types dinosaurs?
You mean like the french who have recently been holding executives hostage (literally) in negotiations until their terms are met.In general, why are most UK TUC types dinosaurs?

Well there is always a happy medium with this kind of thing. I don't think however the the Unions are interested in that, instead simply believing they hold all the cards - As another poster said, there are enough people looking for work to replace those who don't want to.
But on the flip side we don't want to return to a state of practically legalised slavery in the employee/employer relationship, regardless of who that employer is.

I think we all know what the French are like, although their militancy always tends to end up getting them nothing.
You reckon? Have you been there lately?crankedup said:
Union threatens to hold Country to ransom if demands are not met.
Banks threaten to leave Country if demands are not met.
Labour PM caves to unions because they own his party. Labour PM caves to banks because his party is £14m in debt to those banks and they will foreclose if he doesn't.Banks threaten to leave Country if demands are not met.
At least the current lot can argue the toss with the banks without being threatened by personal bankruptcy like feckless labour were.
