Firstly, I must say that I loved his work and he will be sadly missed as an actor.

However, after watching 'A Tribute To...' the other night, I can't work out the conflict in his strong opinions about certain subjects.

A staunch Labour supporter, he hated what was 'done' to the miners by the government at the time (not the unions, you understand, it was all the government's fault), and was very emotional about the death of the mining industry.

However, he was also very passionate about 'climate change' and was seen publically berating (almost blackmailing) Ed Millipede about the opening of new coal-fired power stations.

Now forgive me if I'm missing something, but the product of the last twenty years or so of the British coal industry was 90% to feed coal-fired power stations. So, if by some stroke, perhaps the banning of cheap imported coal, the mining industry has survived, he would have wanted to kill it off later anyway, as coal-fired power was apparently killing the planet?

Now I know that it's not quite as simple as that - there are other factors involved - but nevertheless, the two 'strong opinions' don't seem to fit very well together.

Standing by to be educated, but much as I respected his work, he does seem to be a typical left-leaning, Tory hating because of something that happened thirty years ago, still working class, honest, despite the millions, loony.

Smiler.

I saw that programme and commented something similar to the mrs.

Still, was worth it just to see Millipeds face at the ultimatum.

If he was a leftie he'd do whatever the Labour Party instructed, simple as that! Same as the liberal students who believe every word that comes out of Moonbats column in the guardian, it's a belief without question mentality.

One wonders if Crankedup will be so restrained and respectful when Mrs Thatcher is laid to rest........

Is it heck, I was getting jokes sent to me mere minutes after Jacko was pronounced dead. I think we're all adult enough to be able to discuss a subject like this.

I suspect so, decent chap. It is possible to respect someone's opinion while disagreeing with them, and more appropriate to do so when they're dead imho.

Not sure why anyone would be interested in an actor's opinion of anything other than theatre or film.

hehe

To be fair, though, I didn't intend to speak ill of him, more to try and make some sense of the perceived inconsistencies in his opinions and beliefs.

I didn't think I was being very disrespectful, but apologies to anyone who might think I was.

Thanks for recognising the disrespect to bringing in politics of the deceased. Its often said in here about how 'bad' this Country is getting, so my post was meant as a gentle reminder of common decency in this particular area of discussion, that's all.

Can't answer that one, but I've been burning effigies of Bob Crow for some time now, will do when he dies and will continue to long afterwards. HTH.
