Well we would have no say in what happens in the country and our leaders could completely ignore us and ride the gravy train.

Yes, this is exactly what I imagine happening.
In fact with the EU, there is only one party, 'The EU' so you'll be able to see how it would work by looking at how the EU works right now..

if it was labour, i'd be worried and likely emigrate before it becomes the united soviet socialist republic of great britain... or USSROGB.

if it was the tories, i'd do nothing.

if it was the lib dems, then god help us they can't do anything right, and make us all become europhiles

any other party would probably be crap. Green party would tax anything vaguely related to happiness and spend taxes on crap. Of course, UKIP probably wouldn't be so bad, but probably be a bit crap after a while. BNP would be scary

The House of Commons is simply a place where the process of government is debated. In theory with a single party there would be no need for this other than to pass bills via a vote and to conform to official processes.

So, in direct answer to your question, yes.

The rest of the world would wonder how one party got 90 odd percent of the vote, as the chances of it happening in anything other than a fixed election is vanishingly small.

Well, mathematically it could be done with 1% of the vote. You only need a simple majority (ie one more vote than any other individual candidate) in each constituency to "take" the seat. Repeat that trick 649 further times and Robert's your mother's brother.

The chances remain, as you quite rightly state, vanishingly small.

And if they did this, and failed to confirm to their own rules (bailout, accounting) it would still be Ok, only we'd call them the EU.

They only need a majority for that. Its effectively a block vote for what ever the PM wants.
