both the US and the UK shafted Iran, this is history but it does allow us to realise the hatred in Iran.

however Tony Blair's comments just more spin.

"And this is not because we have done something. At some point - and I say this to you with all the passion I possibly can - the West has got to get out of what I think is this wretched policy, or posture, of apology for believing that we are causing what the Iranians are doing, or what these extremists are doing. The fact is we are not."

Iran is a product of foreign policy, just like Vietnam was.

Apologies for not contributing to your thread, I do realise my above comment is somewhat standard when hearing that vile name.
Unfortunately, there is nothing I wish to add other than my original comment, which is Tony Blair is the biggest this nation has spawned and let loose into the world of mass media coverage.

I look forward to the day he drops from this planet, along with his wife.
I wish no harm to his children.

Really? A Country was made from Foreign Policy??

We beat them in the civilisation race, they are now attempting to make up ground...

I love this.

A genuine laugh out loud moment for me in a week of sadness.

"We beat them in the civilisation race, they are now attempting to make up ground..."

Hatred? maybe from the old guard but modern Iran just wants to get on with it. My old Iranian neighbour said Iran was quite happy and free from hatred till religion took over

Actually the old guard mostly look upon their time pre revolution with a degree of dew-eyed nostalgia... well certainly in the cities anyway. The vast majority of people want to get on, most couldn't care less about 'the great satan' and the devious english manipulators. But never underestimate the power of money in the hands of the thugs and the depths of a Mullah's pockets.

Yep, they were a large group of rug selling numpties who hadn't got round to figuring out the value of the rotting trees under their sandy bare feet.

Bring back the empire..... tank

ETA - I know we drew the borders, it was tongue in cheek as the country was made from millennia of erosion following a small insignificant 'pop' in a corner of the universe....

One of the funniest people I ever knew was Iranian. Drank like a fish and was the life and soul of any pub conversation. Lovely guy - I'm guessing from his alcohol consumption he wasn't too religious!

O/T he was a massive petrolhead too and used to 'collect' E28 5 series BMWs. Well he had one, bought one from an ad in a paper for spares, which turned out to be better than his runner - you know the drill.

http://www.iraniantruth.com/iranian-history.html

"Iranians have a long history of which they could be proud. As one scholar said, “the glory of Iran is its culture,” and its culture is shaped by its rich history. Iranian history is a story of triumphant conquest and cultural stability in the face of conquest. Iranian history is recorded as a far back as 4000 BCE, there are many surviving documents and artifacts from that time period. Iran is home to the great ancient city of Persopolis, over which the most famous of all ancient Persian kings reigned, Cyrus the Great. Cyrus the Great is credited in all of world history to be the first king to grant all of his citizens equal protection under the law. This is a trait of Persian culture that would shape the rest of Iranian history.
The second major chapter in Iranian history marks the beginning of the Islamic period. The Arabs invaded Iran in the 7th century and brought Islam. Iran ran was converted to Islam. Iran, known to have a well established cultural infrastructure, had a great many of its citizens become Islamic scholars, philologists, and philosophers during this time period. The Iranians refined Islamic culture, in fact, they Persianized the formerly nomadic Arabs. During this time period to the late 15th century marks the greatest chapter in Iranian history. This part of Iranian history marks the point at which Iran was the culturally dominant country in that region. The Turks, Afghans, Kurds, and Turkmen all invaded the country but Iran had a strange way of changing the culture of the invader, never the reverse."

Er, you might want to read up on the cradle of civilisation. Their first empire existed over 2500 years ago when Britons were living in thatched mud huts.

Mind you it is very amusing watching the supposedly backward politicians of Iran seemingly run rings around the 'best' negotiators and politicians of the west. Interesting that Blair is still pushing the invade Iran option. He more than anyone should be briefed enough to know the psyche of the general population and how they will react to invasion / war. There will be hell to pay if the west goes down that route. Iran fought a total war with Iraq - defending their nation from invaders is something engrained deep within. Many Iranians loathe the regime, but they will not tolerate outside interference - certainly not from the UK or the US.

when will the penny drop with the politicans that bombing people out of their mud huts dosent endear the bombers to the locals.
It took us long enough in Ireland to work out that someday we would have to actually talk about the problems before we could resolve them.
