This phone 'taping' thing
Discussion
Is it me or are they blowing this out of all proportion?
So some journolists used their brains and phoned up to peoples answer service who had not bothered to set the password for their messages.( not really what I would call tapping)
Ok its bad, I know that and not ethical yadda yadaa yadda but journolists have been acting like
s for years.
Whats the difference between doing this and emptying rubish bins and reading private mail like they do all the time?
They have always used methods of listening into private converstaions. didn't they used to use scanners and things like that before everything went digital?
now Please don't think I am trying to support the torries here because I am not, they are
s just like the rest of them but to me this is a bit of a non story yet Channel 4 are updating their documentary about it etc etc its been in the papers for months even that f
king embarrassment Precot was just on about it on C4 news.
Enough already I don't give a f
k it. Or am I out of touch and this really is the outrage they claim it is?

Turn off the TV and go out for a drive/go to the pub/read a book/etc
where is the fun in that? I can stay in and get wound up by s
te stories on the news
PHer caught asking Where's the fun in going out for a drive?!!!!
Hang your head in shame.

I agree the words "hacking" and "tapping" suggest some skill and ability. Whereas in reality, there was little skill involved as the "victims" were being pretty dim in their security!
I see no difference between this and them goign through peoples's bins, whihc is a bit pikey and perhaps deperate, but has been goign on by all manner of journos for 50 years! !

Also Brown has complained to the police for some bizzare reason.
Apparently he wants compensation because his Personal Protection Officer didn't take him into protective custody using he Powers under the Mental Health Act and let him remain free to run amok.Still, at least his PPO wasn't boffing the missus.
I don't think it is blown out of proportion and I don't think it is simlar to going through bins, I think it is worse, hope all involved get screwed the table, Prescott stylee
Although saying that, journalists and politicians rank up there in the vile table league so ho-hum

See here http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/press/tria... for a clearish non-News Intrnational explanation.I like the suggestion that Cameron picked Gideon/George because he was born is Essex and therefore had the common touch. So being born in Essex overrides being heir to a baronacy and educated at Oxford after two private schools. Oh, hold on, I think I see what he means.
Pretty much says the same as the Despatches prog (repeat on More 4) the other night.
Basically they were alledging the previous Government were scared of the power that News Corp had.
They called of persuing Brooks to questions as it was allegded by one MP that she could cause them grief.
The Met were scared of kicking up a fuss incase they came under scrutiny aswell. I think one of the Met went on to work at NOTW.
Cameron, Brookes and I think Coulson are known as the Chipping Norton Triangle because of their links to each other (and because they all live there).
With the Sky take over, you could see why Cable was so Anti-Murdoch. Perhaps he could see that a powerful news group could have too much leverage over the Government.
Perhaps that's why Cable also kept his job as it could have been embarrasing if the close links with the Government were exposed.
All of this could be twaddle but some MPs were on the programme stating their concern over the power of the media giant.
We know Cameron is full of spin (as bad as Labour) so having someone like Coulson would be handy. Having a powerful media giant onside would be helpful aswell.
I don't know whether we have heard the end of it or not, but I believe Coulson must have known about phone hacking.
If you are an editor you must know everything that goes on. If someone comes up to you with a breaking news story, surely you ask where the source has come from and if it is genuine. Surely as an Editor you don't run with a story if you don't know it's background?
Even if you didn't know the source on every story, you must know how stories were being obtained.
I don't buy the fact that as an editor you don't know where your staff get their stories from.
He left because things were hotting up and would cause further embarrassment for Cameron.

You're kidding right.
I know you're British and don't have freedom of speech or privacy and seem to have taken 1984 as a "how to" guide but even so you can't honestly think this isn't a big deal.
Major newspapers systematically hacking into peoples personal private correspondence? Most countries need multipule levels of judicial authority for this type of invasion and when they ignore it you end up with Nixon level scandals.
