Why? They're only rich (comparativley) from selling stuff to the west cheaply. Soon as that slows, what are they going to do?

They're projected to have economic parity with the USA by 2020, and will still be a developing country. I, for one, welcome our Chinese overlords.

Won't happen. There's simply far too many of them for the worlds resources to support it.

Their recent economy boom is entirely built on being able to manufacture cheap goods for the west to buy. Maintaining the "cheap" bit is what'll put the brakes on their economy.

The population is getting richer. This means that a) they want to import luxury goods (wine, European cars etc) b) they don't want to sweat in factories making cheap plastic toys with poisonous paint.

It becomes less economically viable to manufacture things in China.

As the standard of living over there increases, along with wages this will happen.
