Why the fk would he take an air rifle to a training session and point it at a student?

Student injured in alleged Ashley Cole air rifle accident

A work placement student at Chelsea Football Club was injured after Ashley Cole allegedly accidentally shot him with an air rifle, the News of the World has claimed today.

It is thought the incident happened last Sunday morning at Chelsea's Surrey training ground.

According to the News of the World, 21-year-old Tom Cowan was shot from just 5ft away as Cole "larked about" with the .22 rifle.

Cowan, a sports science student on a year's internship at the club, was reportedly left "in agony" after the lead pellet pierced his side and was "bleeding profusely".

A source told the paper: "It's truly inconceivable that a Premier League footballer could bring a gun to the training ground.

"But Ashley pulled the rifle from a box and started larking about with it in the changing room."

Cowan was reportedly given medical attention at the scene and sent home for two days' recovery but was forced to endure further treatment after the wound continued weeping.

Cole is thought to have been severely reprimanded by Chelsea bosses and has apologised to the young intern, but Tom's father Ron is reportedly furious about the incident.

He is said to be demanding to know what action will be taken against the footballer.

The News of the World claims police were not called and that the club has gone into "lockdown" over the incident.

The paper's insider added: "Cole didn't know the gun was loaded but it's a disgrace. His behaviour beggars belief."

Last night a Chelsea spokesman told The People: "We never comment on internal matters."

It's argued by some that wealth and intelligence are linked.

Not on this evidence!

Being able to kick a round ball about is not intelligence (as conventionally defined).
Whereas an oval ball - now that's a different matter!

Didn't realise it was loaded .. ?! If it was an under-lever air rifle it would take a fair amount of effort to load it.

Isn't there some policey legal thing where even if they "go into lockdown" (and what's that going to be? a strict "No Air-rifles in the changing room" email?) there still is a case to answer for even if no one makes an official complaint.

It's retards like that who treat Air rifles as toys that end up getting them banned.

He's going to be poorer through his stupidity I imagine. How much will he bung this kid to keep this out of court I wonder?

Aside from the intelligence debate (now ended!), I wonder if he has a firearms licence (if his air rife is powerful enough to warrant one), seeing as he apparently 'brought' it to the ground?

I'd love to be shot with an air rifle by Ashley Cole. Easy 20k ish or more cash settlement for me to keep my mouth shut and not go to any papers or the courts. Good deal I think.

More than £500k out of court for phone hacking. I expect he could get more for being shot.

Poor kid probably wants a career as a footballist though - so my guess is £0 and he gets to stay on at the club, even if he's a shi'ite.

yes if he causes a fuss he will probably never work in the industry again. Well that would be my worry anyway.

Marlon King and Lee Hughes made it back in to football - if the footballer is good enough, someone will sign them.

And still, exactly why should he need a firearms licence? Just because he took it 'out' doesn't mean a licence is needed. I highly doubt it was a firearms-class air rifle if the guy was only 5ft away when he was shot.

It says he is a sports science student on a year's internship at the club.

I thought that he was probably there as a student physio or something rather than a promising footballer.

Bizarre. Could we not just ban top end football in it's current form? I mean, it's no longer the game of the working man as it rightly should be.
