Why are all the western governments so concerned about the human rights of people in Lybia all of a sudden and are making plans to send in troops and liberate the country etc.

If we are truly that concerned about human welfare why are we not in DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, and other places around the world where the people are oppressed and killed by horrendous regimes or militia's???

OR is it down to that good old OIL OIL OIL OIL OIL OIL that Libya has and the other's don't

Why do the the western media and Governments keep trying to piss down our necks and tell us it's raining.

I do find it quite ridiculous when Cameron et al are on TV saying 'now that Gaddafi is killing his people.....'

When as you say Pete, people like Mugabe have been doing far worse for far longer!!

Of course. Why on earth do you have to ask such an obvious question? Oil runs the world economy. Libya has lots of it, so it's important what happens to it. DR Congo has no oil, so if they want to slaughter each other then (sadly) thats their business.
If D R Congo wants sorting out, why don't you volunteer?

Its been the same since the first world war UK USA etc... liberate the country from an evil dictator and the country pays back the cost for decades to come. Just in these cases Iraq, Afganistan (Im sure they have some oil) now Lybia im sure the politicians would love to "help" the people of Iran out and all these countries can pay us back for decades to come in free oil.

Problem with DR Congo.....is that the Chinese got in there first...

In fact, the chinese have got into a lot of the 'resource rich' african nations first.

That's probably the main reason why the West doesn't speak up about those areas as much.

Myanmar is also rich in precious stones etc. It should by right be a rich country. Can't seeteh West trying to help out the Monks next time they kick off, what with the Chinese next door...

Because the middle east is of a greater strategic importance.

Sounds reasonable, but why should this effect media coverage?
If a despot going lunatic is worth of the news, why is it less covered in central Africa?

Think the famous not the nine-O-clock news sketch.... "those killed... in order of importance 120 Americans, 19 British, 24 French and 2459 Philippinos"

Libyans as North Africans are richer and more European than Sub Saharan Africans. They aren't however as important as the residents of the Balkans :-)

The other key points:

1. We aren't actually doing that much in Libya
2. The issues with the country are political (solvable) rather than structural or cultural like in the other countries mentioned.
3. It's only 400 miles from Italy.

One problem with sub sarhara Africa is if we do anything is colonialism all over again, White man oppressing the blacks...

The other problem with DRC is it's jungle, makes winning very hard just like 'nam...

Why is that wrong? Don't you and your family benefit from secure and reliable oil supplies? or are you one of the ignorant that pretends otherwise?

If you were running the country would you be happy to spend the lives of troops in foreign climbs for just some morals you yourself might have? Or would it be better if they actually were spent protecting something tangible?

For Africa China is far better then the west getting involved

China doesn't give a fk about human rights so will quite happily shoot idiots running around with machetes instead of sending them a book on embroidery and some peace crisps.

China will stop them breeding like rabbits and starving where as the west will give the countries dictators a new palace and send lenny henry over to talk to the starving children.

In summary China are complete bds but its what Africa needs

Economic colonisation seems to be working quite well too.

Rather than treating the Africans like slaves in their own countries, they teach them how to use and develop their ressources, teach them new skills (the examples I am close to is agricultural machinery and agricultural ressources management) and actually give them the power (or the illusion of) that they can manage themselves.

Of course, if they fk up, then they shoot them wink
