BBC said:
A couple warned by police after their children picked daffodils from a Dorset park have said they did not know their daughters were committing a crime.

Jane Errington and Marc Marengo were with their children in Whitecliffe Park, Poole, when officers were called.

Ms Errington said the children were "upset" following the events on Sunday.

Councillor Peter Adams, whose home overlooks the park, said the daffodils were for "the people of Poole" and a "proper response" had been taken.
Councillor Adams goes on to then wax lyrical about his point even further down. I suppose that him lives directly opposite had nothing to do with it. Methinks Councillor Adams really believes the flowers are for his benefit rather than the people of Poole.

I really fail to see what the media interest is in this story.

Poole council should concentrate on sorting their own problems out, we didn't have any fecking bin collections for 6 weeks during the snow... tossers.

Good. Maybe they won't do it again.

Oh the humanity...police officers tell people to stop doing something naughty, people are suitably chastened.

The only thing wrong with the story is that they weren't nearby on the beat to start with.

It is the parents who are to blame, why did they think it was okay to pick the flowers? It is vanadlisum and has been dealt with appropriatly. Perhaps the parents and the kids will think differently in future.

Because the parents have kicked up a fuss about it.

Don't know why the media have published it - but I'd love to know why the parents think it's appropriate to have raised it with the media in the first place. They obviously still don't believe there's anything wrong in destroying council property.

When I started reading the article I was thinking to myself 'what a cock of an MP and what a pair of cocks the Plods were as we've all picked flowers as kids'.

Then you realise that they were basically harvesting the park and you find yourself thinking what kind of parent thinks that is appropriate and what kind of parent goes bleating to the news when told that this sort of thing is not appropriate.

well someone is fibbing, the parents and kids say they were only picking about 20 the BiB were told that they were picking 80 bunches and throwing them around, someone is telling porkies.

i would suggest that if it was that bad the BiB would have taken pictures and they may have made the paper as well.

is suspect that the truth is in between, the amount was exagerated when on the phone to plod, but the kids may have chucked them at each other.

having said all of that i wouldn't let my kids do it at all. its damage and they are living things.

I think what gets me, is that it's safe to assume the parents genuinely think they've done nothing wrong. We're just turning into a country of self centered tts.

I'll bet if they turned up at the park tomorrow and every single flower had been removed by all the other park users Jane, Marc, India, Olivia and Sienna would have been the first to complain to the council.

Had it been someone other than the local councillor phoning the police about this would there have even been a response from the police?

Too much information Eric !!!!!!

biggrin

AS to the OP, if this was a small child picking 2-3 flowers as kids tend to, I'd say it was an over-reaction but then if it is a few kids basically ripping up every flower in the park, then that's a different matter!

The other issue is the timescales involved.

The MP spots the kids. Then notices they are going OTT. Then notices that the parents are not stepping in. Then calls the police. The police then turn up and monitor the situation. The police then decide to have a word.

Unless the MP has some kind of Bat Phone and the plod are driving Ferraris then this must have been going on for quite some time.

Maybe it would be best to execute all parties involved, including the reporter and his editor so as to send out the right kind of message to all parties.
