Hardly believable I know! how can any so called caring understanding Government be so mean and churlish as to cut 100 pounds from pensioners heating allowance. Incredible that the Tory led coalition would stoop to this. Barstewards, each and every one of them, still I expect it claws back that extra expenses allowance gained last week rage

You don't need a heating allowance - you have Global Warming.

It was only there because the standard pension isn't big enough, something that they've fixed...

I think you will find that this was put in place by the Labour twits before they were voted out in their last budget, the coalition has just left it as labour set it up.

It would be worth checking your facts out somewhere better than the latest issue of socialist worker....

Politics is not an issue, if the Labour party instigated this please show me evidence. You will find this snippit of cuts buried deep inside the Tory/ Lib-Con budget paper. Compassion and caring Government eh! No other E.U. Country treats their elderly with such contempt as the U.K.

Thanks for link, although it (page 80) has absolutely no connection with the topic that I have raised.
Even so, how can we, as a Nation, back a cynical and spiteful needless budget cut to some of our least able in society. It is precisely this type of Governmental behaviour which will displace the Tories back another twenty years into the political wilderness, do they not realise the voting power of the pensioners I wonder.

Sticks.

Para 1.13 (p38) refers to a proposal for a Green Paper on future pensions. So it's a consultation process on what will apply to those claiming the state pension in futute. The cut in heating allowance affects current pensioners.

As I read it, anyway.

Exactly, according to my Geography GCSE in 1997 we'll be enjoying a tropical climate by 2010 due to the greenhouse effect....... oh.....

The heating allowance, although good for a lot, is pointless for others.
The dad of an ex of mine recieved it, his yearly pension was about 3 times more than my wage at the time.

If the money is there for this sort of thing (which it isn't) then it should be at least means tested.

Isnt the issue that the last government only put aside 2/3rds of the money needed for the top up and as such the current government dont have the money now?

Plus it should be changed and vetted anyways and then people like lord sugar dont have to argue with numpties in government saying they dont need it and should qualify.

Probably cost 3 times more to admin the means test mad than just pay it out to everyone.

The media are just as bad, anyone with half a brain has known this was the case with the PFI scheme and we were getting screwed in the long run. Why weren't the media reporting these facts way back when instead of "oooh, look at the shiny new hospitals Labour have given us".
