More No-Fly Zones?
Discussion
OK, we are now enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya because Gaddafi in his finite (obviously) wisdom thought it would be a good idea to shoot anyone that disagreed with him being in charge.
In Yemen, the protests are getting more and more violent, as they are in Syria. Also in Bahrain the Bahrainian government brought in Foreign troops (Saudi's) to help them with there dissenters.
So, will we be enforcing further no-fly zones?
If so or if not, why?
PS Personally I think what we're doing kind of goes beyond enforcing a no-fly zone, but that's a different issue, or maybe s
t (lazy) media reporting of the UN 1973's wording.

I very much doubt it. Now that other countries have seen the consequences of using air strikes against your own citizens, I think they will be quite wary of using similar tactics.AshVX220 said:

Because they are not using air strikes. AshVX220 said:

Why don't you read it?MX7 said:
Thankyou, didn't think it'd be online for some reason. It's very woolly and makes it difficult to identify what, on our part, would be going too far.
The main point of the article is to prevent harm to civilians, so civil war or not civil war, the civilians in the other nations I mentioned are being harmed. So in kmy mind the question still remains.

difference is yemen and bahrain are USA allies.
what is happening in Libya is the UN/NATO are providing the tactical strikes and using the rebels as the foot soliders. nothing like what was supposed to happen in a no-fly zone.
My thoughts exactly with regard to Libya, as for Yemen adn Bahrain, it's odd that a blind eye can be turned when it's your allies. It shows me that we are hypocritical.difference is yemen and bahrain are USA allies.

As for turning a blind eye...
"We're obviously extremely disturbed by what is happening in Yemen, particularly the recent events, and we've urged every country in that region to respond to the aspirations of its people with reform and not with repression." David Cameron.
There's an element of hypocrisy in almost everything. It's hardly a revelation.
the hypocrisy starts and finishes with Saudi Arabia.
removal of the al-saud family should be priority number one for the usa if they do want to achieve what they say but they'll never do it.
having seen it for my self i do think saudi crackdowns are far far worse and just as violent as gadaffi. its just that people there dare not stand up just yet in the same numbers.
the oppression is there and so is the controlling nature of the ruling party.
it maybe called looking after one's interests but its still wrong.

I never said the usa should sort it out
what i said was if the usa wanted to achieve what it says it wants to do then the removal of the saud family should be thier number one priority.
course they're never going to do it cause they're full of hypocrisy. the govt not the ppl. jimbeux is probably full of beer or something.

I am actually full of no such thing. I am with MX7 here. Either way we go, it sets off the hand wringers, so screw it, I say do what is best for ourselves.what i said was if the usa wanted to achieve what it says it wants to do then the removal of the saud family should be thier number one priority.

I hope you're not suggesting I'm a hand wringer Jimbeaux. I'm just raising the question.
And I fully understand that to have similar events take hold in a place like Saudi would be an absolute nightmare. If it were to happen we may all be able to fill our tanks once a year, if we're lucky.
I understand that political hypocrisy [sp] exists, but to me this is the first time it's been quite so blatant.

No, actually you did not come to mind when I made that comment. And I fully understand that to have similar events take hold in a place like Saudi would be an absolute nightmare. If it were to happen we may all be able to fill our tanks once a year, if we're lucky.
