Exaggerley!

I raise a metaphorical glass to celebrate every time I see one of the slimy obnoxious tts on the telly/newspaper or see one of the soap shy socialist worker scum trying to tell me what to think.

I'm worse off because of them, not because my national insurance might be changing.

Whilst it is the current government who are receiving the extra national insurance just remember who we have to thank for actually putting the increase on the statute books.

The extra 1% national insurance is made up of the:

1. 0.5% increase announced in Alistair Darling's 2008 pre-budget report, and
2. 0.5% increase announced in Alistair Darling's 2009 pre-budget report.

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20100407...

I can't help but notice that all the talk Labour are spreading of today being 'Black Wednesday' they have made no reference to the impact on household income of this national insurance increase.

Funny that...

I left last July and pay less income tax than I would VAT in the UK. And if I ever become a Permanent Resident, the local NI equivalent goes into a ringfenced fund that I can then spend on stuff like housing and penions smile

Or I could be back in the UK paying about 65% net tax when you factor in income tax, NI, VAT, fuel duty etc - tough choices...

Yes, what a financial paradise you live in! Ten quid a pint for beer, £2500 a month for a 2 bed flat, £80,000 for a Golf GTi or £145,000 for a basic Porsche Boxster. No wonder income tax and VAT are low! hehe

Agreed. The idea that there is some kind of paradise where you get high pay, low tax and low prices and everything is marvellous is bks

Happy "poverty Wednesday"

Thank you. I am quite happy today. The sun is shining, I'm only doing a half day at work, will go for a nice offroad run later and install some new shiny kit at home tonight. It's a good day.

Figure we pay an awful lot less in Florida, let alone Dubai.

No state income tax, only Federal income tax, much lower property taxes, fuel that still costs an awful lot less, a Mustang GT 5.0 for the equivalent of £18k new, sales tax at 6% instead of 20% and a pint of Guinness is still only $3.

And then we get onto property, $250k buys you a condo on the beach, or $100k for an above average suburban house in a decent area. Even avoiding the bad areas, you can buy a place $15-25k at the moment on foreclosure (although it will be distressed, and you will need another 15k to bring it up to spec).

Finally, the weather. 22C today, 27C tomorrow, and the weekend will warm up a bit more. (It's been like that for 6 weeks now).

No, but it's my money, and if I want to piss it up against the wall or spunk it on a car, then I can. My choice. It's not given away to some charver to spend on their booze and fags, and paying for their inbred little thugs that end up mugging the people that pay for their sorry existence.

And to balance it, a beer is £6 here on average in the Business District (so what, £3.50-£5 in Central London), and more like £3 outside (for 660ml Tiger bottle), and car loans are being offered at 1.99%. Work all of this out after tax in the UK versus here and the difference isn't so great.

£2,500 for a 2 bed, yes, sure, but that get's you 1,000 sq ft 15-20 minutes to the office, with a gym, swimming pool(s), tennis courts etc. What would that get you in London prey tell (again, work out the net cost on 17-19% tax versus 40-50% + NI...?

So no, it's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than getting raped back home for actually working and having half a brain.

I lived in Huntington Beach for a couple of years and although California taxes are usually a bit higher than Florida, but as a business owner, if i were there today with America's appallingly high corporation tax, I'd be significantly worse off then here in the UK. Wherever you are there are pluses and minuses but at the end of the day the revenue always get its pound of flesh! smile

PS - I now live on the Isle of Wight and it's 19C today with not a cloud in the sky and threatens to be over 20C tomorrow!
